I've been playing Fallout 3, but I can't figure out what to do after Megaton. I've done the grocery store, which was great, BTW, but I'm not sure where to go next. I've even earned the house.

Explore beyond Megaton. Exploration is how you get more quests.

That was helpful. That told me which direction I needed to strike off into. I'm melee/small guns/repair.

have you disabled the bomb in megaton? have you spoken with lucy in the bar? have you completed wasteland survior guide storyline? because if you have you should have discovered the GNR radio station, the second city (rivet city), and a thousand new quests.

That's what I was at first too. I first ventured off North to Big Town and did the quests there, and ended up at the police station. But really, it doesn't matter where you go.
Also invest some points in energy weapons early, it will come in handy later.

I found a laser pistol in the grocery store off of a raider. I have been investing points in science, speech and explosives to advance the story. For whatever reason.

I tried to do the quest from Lucy West, but I died in the middle of the wilderness and had forgotton to save my game. It didn't occur to me that the radio stations had quests. I'm only level 3 yet. I was looking for another quest line to pursue besides the note, and looks like I have one. Is Nathan supposed to do anything? Nanya kept asking me to send him home, but he doesn't offer me a choice at this point, just a bunch of "praise Enclave".

The game is great, I just got cofused about what I should be doing at my level. Heading to Arafu got me killed, and I'm not far enough along to hack Moriarty's PC.

On my 1st play through of Fallout. I did exactly that. People telling me that the story was rather short so enjoy and explore.

So I nuked Megaton. Went to Penny Tower. Got out, and went west. Then north....

    SPOILER....

Well I pretty much on not trying to do the "find dad" plan back fired. I ended up in the garage, did the black and white level, found dad. And pretty much shortened the game by a pretty huge margin..... So much for avoiding the straight line....

    END OF SPOILER.....

How useful is Science, anyway. I don't want to spend a whole bunch of points in it, only to find out it's unnecessary.

Well you need either a good science or lockpick in the game, to open things. It is your choice.

The thing with Fallout, especially with Broken Steel, is you can easily get all of your SPECIAL to 8 or 9 and your normal skills to 100. If you play the game carefully, there's even a guide on getting all of your special to 10. So you never really have to focus on anything except at the beginning.

Explore..that's what this game is all about...explore, upgrade weapons, sell what's left. Keep weapons you'll use back in your house.

OP: Do you have all the DLC/retail expansions?

If not, get them. Explore. Finish them. Explore some more. Then wait for Fallout 4 and/or mmo.

mmo would be awesome, I really hope they invest in it as it would make this game much funner to play. I've sunk many hours into it as it is and I'm really excited to get some DLC's going soon.

Don't hold your breath for an MMO.
Bethesda may hold rights to single player Fallout games, but last I read, Black Isle still owns MMO rights.

You need your hand held to play Fallout 3? Why don't you get a guide if you can't figure it out? Or do you just want random forum members to keep shooting suggestions, and you say whether or not you already did it? :/

Just playing the game, my friend, and looking to learn something. I did, and I'm glad, because I learned about the radio quests. I'm enjoying the game immensely.

This entire game is about freeplay and exploration m8 :) there is no wrong direction to go ( well except Raven Rock :D in early levels ), so explore and do quests :) of even better download mods for the game that spice the game up even farther
