So, your Laptop is tough? it can handle the game on high settings? Take that!

    http://www.gamershell.com/news_65974.html

the High Definition Texture pack makes the game looks much better when in the open, its worth downloading, will try to post screenies when my connection is stable.

you must have a capable system, or stuttering maybe caused. 512bm of Vram is recommended

Wanna try, but can the process reverse?
otherwise i can't go back to "normal" texture if this HD pack looks too heavy for my laptop....

Ack, I can't run the game with "Ultra High" settings, so I'll pass this up until I get my new laptop. I bet they look pretty nice though...

I'll try to get some comparitive screenshots of megaton and the general wasteland. I'm getting a good 60fps on ultra high @ 1680x 1050, so I think I can afford the high res pack.

Could you also take screenshots without the pack applied so we can see the difference between the two? Thanks. :)

My bad, I read too quickly and thought you were only going to take pictures with the pack applied.

I'll try it on my desktop. I sit at 60fps most of the time on Ultra High, but it does drop to the 40's once in awhile depending on what is loading and what I am looking at.

I do not think crossfire is working thats a single 4850 speed.

I plannd to photoshop my own "skins"for a few of the armors at one point.

Well call me stupid, but I can't seem to find where to copy files, more or less "install" it. Any ideas?

You might be surprised, most of the differences between high and ultra high were to do with effects/view distances the last time I looked.

I did read the install instructions, but I don't think they are right. Fallout 3 uses .bsa files for textures, and the high def archive is just a bunch of folders. Anyone gotten it to work properly?

Qarl's for oblivion is the same, you simply overwrite the folders in your install dir.

Right, but the install directory doesn't have the folders you're supposed to overwrite, Menus and Textures. There is, however, a Fallout - Textures.bsa file.

That's what led to my confusion, regarding the install.

Ok downloading it now. I am not sure what textures are changed so do not know a good place to go for comparison shots or video.

Plus would be best to have a timed demo of sorts but I have no idea how to do that... So just gonna give it a go best I can with a few fast travel places and walk a straight line and then try to line up my pictures/video of the two later.

Edit: Install easy... program files folder --> bethesa works (spelling) --> copy the data folder over the old one.

Id back up the old one first though its around 5.5gb and thats what I am doing now.

Well I installed it and changed my .ini file and just did a split screen video of before & after of the vault 101 area outside and I cant even see a difference.

I checked the map, and despite my previous concerns it did install. Seems to me the payoff isn't worth it. It lowered performance a lot, and didn't look that much better, though a bunch of textures are noticeably better.

A lot of texture replacements work in the same way, the game engine will normally read the base textures from a compressed file, in this case the Textures.bsa, but if it finds textures in the game directory too it'll use those instead.

I think I thought of a better way to make a seamless comparison video I will give it a shot today when I get off work.

I also have a nice little combat video I need to put together.
