I was really wanting to get this game at retail but was worried it won't work with the no cd crack from gamecopyworld. So I was thinking maybe get it from steam, although I here ppl say the steam version has complications, the installation takes longer and I want to feel what I bought in my hands.

Can anyone post the pros and cons for getting retail or steam, and what you'd recommend I get. Also can the no cd crack from gamecopyworld work or should I hold of until the game matures and newer versions are released of the game and no cd crack. Since I do this with all the games I purchase.

I bought it on steam, downloaded it in around 4 hours total at an average of 400-450 KB/s, and after using steam to get the cd key, I don't even have to have steam running to launch the game (but if you run from the launcher it forces you to start steam). I'm pretty sure it doesnt install the secuROM cd-check either since there is no physical CD.

It's not true that if there is no physical DVD there is no SecuROM. SecuROM can coexist with Steam. Crysis Warhead and Bioshock both have SecuROM included in the Steam releases. Also, the publisher often submit the same encrypted binary to Steam as it would to production.

I hate to say it. But I protest by not buying anything with SecuROM in it. Eventually the publisher will get it. Sony's SecuROM is not the solution. It's the lazy solution. It's often cracked within hours of releases. The developers are only using it to cover their asses with the publisher. To show that they're actually making an effort to protect the game.

Make a real game with compelling content and people will buy it. Look at Blizzard, they've been doing just fine without SecuROM.

I would say go retail, then you have a physical piece of "I bought this" and don't have to mess with any steam support, updates, or account recovery.

What do you mean you don't have to have steam running? how do I launch the game then?

With the securom thing, would the no cd crack from gamecopyworld work? I see one with no dvd exe and one that says no dvd/ image what's image mean and do?

No idea, I just hate steam, even thought I use it. I was out for 2 weeks while they verified account information when I lost my password. Despite giving them overwhelming proof, but that is another thread. Even if I have to load a DVD every time, I am still happy to know I have something physical to prove it is mine. A no cd crack does circumvent their security, and is thus, to my understanding illegal, so we cannot discuss. Buy a $5 disc carrier and put this one in there, will save you time and effort.

Steam is a lovely tool for me, I truly recommend it.

They should make it exceedingly difficult to recover your password, this could be annoying but the benefit is well worth the hassle.

Plus, I dont like to stock disks, on steam you can play your games from anywhere from any pc with no issues after a download (or copy), Im sure the DRM is a bit more limited as well.

I downloaded it from Steam. Couldn't run it for a while, but I figured it out(NOD32 thought the Fallout executable was a virus.)

I guess I'd recommend buying retail if it's convenient. Though, Steam is starting to make a lot more sense to me...

So what did you have to do to fix it?

Yep. As long as I don't let NOD32/ESET Smart Security quarantine it I'm good to go.

yeah, just add the Fallout folder, steam folder, or atleast the file to the exclusion list in ESET, and all is well... it's a failry common issue with ESET security, but otherwise it's a great suite of tools.

As for Steam, absolutely love it, and it's my first choice in purchasing games. I've got 2 pc's (laptop and a tablet), and I load games on both of them, and always have access to my games when I've got a little time to kill. Long live Steam.

ok I just bought mine retail also and before I even started the first execute I used the no cd crack from gamecopyworld and it crashed. I was disappointed to say the least, so I ctrl alt deleted out of it and said a little prayer and tried to launch it again without the disk and it launched. Hooray!

I'm here at Starbucks and this is where I installed it so I just set everything max on high and it seems to be running smooth so far I just got to the birthday party and I logged out. Gonna really delve into it when I get home.

It's now 8:16 pm Halloween and I'm feeling like a lonely loser although there's also a lonely loser hot babe that I made eye contact with and she came to sit next to me I want to talk to her but don't know how to bust a move maybe tell her let's go get some drinks since there's halloween parties all over.

Anyway back to fallout, what's the cd key for and why would I want to log into microsoft live? Is it important that I do?

Update I broke the ice spoke to her and we talked for a bit I think she wants to do something but I broke of convo and started typing. My game is weak. Hopefully it's different story when I delve into Fallout.
