I've tried the dll trick, and while in the settings it does recognize my computer as to having an external graphics card, once I actually launch the game, the screen simply goes black, and I can't play. I've also tried updating to Fallout 3 v1.7, as well as downloading the latest Games for Windows live. No matter what I try, I cannot get my computer to play Fallout 3 with these specs:

    -Intel i5 2520M
    -Intel HD 3000 graphics
    -Windows 7 64-bit OS
    -4 GB of RAM

it should play on the t420 because it plays fine on my thinkpad T400. Isn't the HD3000 more powerful than the HD 3470?

Well, Fallout 3 doesn't recognize integrated graphics, so you have to use the dll trick to make it believe you're using a dedicated card. And, even while trying to do this, Fallout 3 won't start up on my computer.

A quick search online points to the HD 3000 being unable to play F3. It's probably a driver issue so at this point you can only hope Intel's next driver fixes it.

You might want to post on Bethesda's forum to see if they can help you, as they still try and help people out. Bethesda Softworks Forums FO3 and Windows 7 never really got along and Intel drivers aren't usually updated with gaming in mind.

You could try editing the Ini. file, but I doubt it's going to help.

The Ini. file should be in your documents folder and once you find it search for "bUseThreadedAI=0" and change the value from 0 to 1. Add another line under this and paste in "iNumHWThreads=2"

I don't remember if you need to run the game and save before being able to edit the Ini. file....
