I was just wondering if somebody could post me a few screenshots from Fallout 3 running on low settings. I want an idea of how it's going to look on my computer (the one in my sig) if I can get it to run at a decent framerate. My biggest bottleneck is the video card.

I'm particularly interested in seeing the indoor areas. My computer ran Oblivion just fine but Fallout 3's lighting and textures are a huge improvement over what we saw in the original oblivion engine and that's what my computer will likely have the biggest problem handling. Mutant models are also something that my computer would have a hard time with. The outdoor areas aren't really that much of an improvement over Oblivion since there isn't much foliage.

I second this request. 8400m GS screens would be nice :)

I would also like to see some screens when running on a 8600GT with DDR2.

I will satsify both your requests.

The high ones are taken at the default high settings, but with shadows and water sampling turned down a little, but with 4x AA and 8x AF. These are the settings I play at with my 256mb DDR2 8600m GT. I know the resolution is low, but the AA and AF more than make up for it, and I can set the draw distances higher. The low ones are taken at the default low settings.

    Thanks for the pics!

That doesn't look as bad as I was expecting. As long as I can get a decent framerate, I wouldn't mind playing on those settings.

I've been playing my brother's 360 copy and I wouldn't mind downgrading to those graphics just to be able to use my keyboard and mouse. Hitting enemies when you don't have enough action points to use VATS is huge pain when you're using thumbsticks.

My only remaining concern besides framerate is how the lighting will look in the indoor areas. If you could post a screen of one of the indoor areas that would be awesome.

i run it on an 8400GS its about 40fps most of the time, looks pretty bad, but very playable, fps fall to 20 and less in indoor areas with lots of people

id say an 8600GT would be quite adequate for this game

turning on 2x AA sunk my fps from 45 to 15

Finally got the game, installed it and am loving every minute of it. It doesn't look anywhere near as good as the 360 version but it still looks good enough to make you feel like you're trotting through a hellish nuclear wasteland. The framerate can get choppy in the indoor areas where you have alot of NPCs to interact with. Most of the textures are low res, but you can still see some normal mapping and parallax on character models and decals. The character pop-in is a bit annoying when you are trying to fight at a long distance, but VATS takes care of it.

Seriously the game does not look bad on minimal settings. It doesn't look amazing, but you will still be able to enjoy the game. If you want bad, you should check out Bioshock on my system. The textures look like smudged clay and the game runs consistently below 20fps. Despite meeting the requirements, the game is unplayable. Crysis ran and looked better than that game on my machine. I hate Unreal Engine 3.

i played in on an 8400GS and the biggest gripe is that it would slow to a crawl on certain areas like the staircase and market in Rivet City among others, looked okay other than that, fps outside were like 40ish average

It scales very well IMO. Such a wonderful game.
