I played this game with no issues on my dv8000t, and I installed it on my new VAIO F12, and it ran perfectly for the first couple hours, then randomly crashed, and now it wont restart. It will load up, but when I click OK on the continue previous game, it will show the load screen that shows your level and stats, but then it shuts down, and says game closed because error. I tried a couple supposed fixes where you have to adjust the value of one iten in the system file for the game to "0" and add this line: "iNumHWThreads=2" but it didn;t do anything.
I then went to the bethesd'sa website and downloaded the latest patch, and now it wont even load the game at all. All I get an error screen saying "Ordinal Not Found" "The Ordinal 5360 could not be located in teh dynamic link library xlive.dll".
Any help would be appreciated.

Back up Your saved games, uninstall the game, install it again and restore Your saved games from the backup.

Be sure to install Games for Windows Client, make sure the player name is the same as before, otherwise your save won't be recognized.

I thought you had to back up your whole xlive folder for GFWL saves to be able to transfer over

For locking / freezing issues:
Open the fallout.ini file.
Do a find for this: bUseThreadedAI=0
Change it to: bUseThreadedAI=1
Add a new line below that: iNumHWThreads=2
Save and close
For crashing on start make sure you have Games for Windows installed and sometimes it will still crash. Use the "fallout 3 launcher" to start the game also. Game seems a little extra buggy with Win 7 and multicore / hyperthreading cpus -

I already tried adjsuting the ini file, and it didn't work. I found the solution though, or rather a patch. The autosave feature is what is causing hte crashes for some reason. When you disable autosave, and just use the manual save, it works fine. I had to go in the saved games folder and delete the autosave.fo.. file and it works flawlessly now.

i ahd nothing but problems with this game. i bought the GOTY edition and it played fine for about 2hrs, but after that it crashed every 5mins i tried every fix know to the internet to no avail. i even downloaded some bit torrent called final fix that thousands of people claim worked and got nothing. i got fed up with it and sent it back. it was stacking up to be a GREAT game but if i cant play it without problems for the most part, then whats the point.
Fallout 3 stopped working...
