Your 260M should be able to run it near max...

silentnite2608 Notebook Evangelist
I don't have it anymore.
See.\/ -
I have a g72
at max the game runs at about 15-25 fps so a bit slow.
The game metro 2033 runs about the same speed but looks a good deal better -

Thanks for the input.
I don't have clue what be affordable 800$ that beat the 260. -
nothing
Ive seen refurbished g73s go for 850 though but they sell out quickly.
Im curious about msi 640 refurbs where they are sold.
That machine is 1100 new so worth a shot to look for and it has a 5850 -
this game for some reason doesn't seem to be optimized/runs slow. its a disappointed in that sense since they are using an old engine, and the graphics quality is low compared to todays standard.

Hmmm. I see.

Just go to Best Buy and see what they have. I know a friend bought a G72 for $900 new few months back. Maybe they will have an amazing sale on a G73 for black friday?

There seem to be some nasty bugs in FO:NV that cause all kinds of slowdowns, crashes, things rendering funny, wireframes showing up in V.A.T.S., etc etc. Fallout 3 still has a few of them as well, and some have been in the engine since Oblivion. New Vegas is definitely the glitchiest of the bunch for now. Hopefully, they actually patch most of them in a decent amount of time or at all this time, preferably before the GOTY edition.
That said, for some reason I still can't stop playing it,.... -
I play it maxed out on mine at full 1080p and aa @ 2x

I already know about those asus. I had one at one time.
Htwingnut how is that XT? I can't find anything really solid.
Would it help with loads in NV (Like quick travel or doors?) -
If I hooked it up to a external gpu it would game better. If that mattered to me
I doubt if I had one if Id ever use it -
-
I hope like Bethesda said in their interview they do some heavy modding to the engine for TES5 thats now in development. The engine needs a huge overhaul, reall bad. I mean the games don't look horrible but there is definite room for improvement.

of the ones you listed the best is the 260 gtx
the 2nd best is the 360 gts
of the laptops you listed the best gamer is the asus g72gx followed closely by the g51vx and g60vx and then the g60jx
Those ones are older tech top range notebooks. Alll the other ones are newer tech mid range notebooks
I have a momentus xt and I havent noticed any miracles yet lol. Im going to read about it I think you need to give it some time and then it might just load doorways faster. -

I figured the 260GTX was the best bet. But I don't much about anything with these gpu updating so much so often.
Thanks!
Would I be better off getting a quad or tri core? I only want RPG to look there best. Everything else I will play at medium settings. -
No Im not aware of any rpg that cares if you have a tri core or quad core.

Sadly its settle I have to get back my G72GX.
-
best buy has the g60 jx refurb for 629 right now thats easy to find.
It would be a small step down from your old g72 but it has the new i5 cpu
edit actually look at what this guy posted earlier
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._-na&AID=10446076&PID=3640576&SID=skim525X832
thats a good deal. A g71 is almost identical to a g72 best buy ecept for the screen resolution. It doesnt have a backlit keyboard but it has more lights that flash.
Its essentially the same thing but its a touch smaller. thats a good deal that might make my top pick. Best dollar per gaming -

Res doesn't me anything to me.
But yeah both those laptops look good. -
I would go with the g60jx just because it would only be slightly slower and you actually could upgrade it to a quadcore i7
-

Link to the G60jx I can't find it on the bb website.

It runs pretty good on my Envy 15, which has been discontinued, unfortunately. Maybe you can find a used or refurb unit in your price range, or some other laptop with the same GPU (AMD 5830).
before installing the 4GB exe loader file I was getting 30-40 fps or so on FRAPS at 1920x1080, all detail settings maxed except water refracting and water resample set to low. after installing the 4GB exe loader and the d3d9.dll, it seems to be a slightly higher frame rate, but there is no way to know the exact fps because FRAPS conflicts with the 4GB exe loader.
lots of people have complained about CTD and bugs with FNV, but in my case it has been primarily very minor, insignificant bugs, such as creatures getting stuck in terrain, etc.
Only one area seems to cause a CTD and that is vault 11 near the reactor area. there is a mantis who lunges at you in that spot and causes a CTD, but only if you have the super slam perk and are using melee weapons. if you switch to ranged weapons the CTD is averted. -
I get regular crash to desktop
-
For general gaming, the GPU is still probably the most important component on a notebook. Nevertheless, it's interesting to see multi-core optimization.
Dragon Age: Origins CPU benchmarks - 75 percent boost for quad-cores - Dragon Age Origins, CPU, Benchmark, Performance - PC Games Hardware
Hope this helps! -

Just got back my G72GX. Trade Desktop and some cash.
