Seeing as Fall Out: New Vegas is coming out in 2 weeks, I thought a discussion thread was in order.
I played Fallout 3 as my first in the Fallout series and immediately fell in love with it. I though the game was visually stunning and the "after war" setting was so intriguing. I thought that the game was however, pretty basic when it came to the guns and equipment. It seems like there was a definite "best" when it came to the equipment. Hopefully New Vegas solves this, I hear it is supposed to have many more weapon options.

I've been preordered for awhile now. FO3 was a great game. I loved the setting and the gameplay.
I tried FO1 and 2 and they were just too dated. Some folks swear by them, but I hated the perspective of play.
NV is going to be great! -
Yeah.............it's too bad people, nowadays, need a lot of bling-bling and eye-candy ..................miss a lot of great games with that requirement !
-
Oh and the reason FO:NV is going to be better that FO3 ,I'll reserve my judgement as far as great for now, is because some of the original FO 1 and 2 Devs. are running the show at Obsidian !
-
I just hope it runs as well on my laptop as Fallout 3 did.
-
Same here. I'm really looking forward to it.

I too fell in love with the gameplay and feel of complete openness of fallout 3. Who did you guys preoreder with? Still trying to figure out who would be best. I usually go steam but with all the issues I had with fallout 3 on steam I am a bit reluctant.

I grew up on Fallout 1 and 2. Hands down the best turn-based RPG I ever played (sorry Chrono Trigger, I'm a guy, and I need me some misogynist humor)
While I'll always have fond memories of FO1/2, I really did enjoy FO3, and they - for the most part - kept in line with the spirit of the series. As I like to call it: The VATS 'n Stats. Those two things (body part targeting, and the unique skill trees) make Fallout what it is.
Real excited for the game. Unfortunately, I won't be too popular when I say that I pre-ordered this game awhile ago....
for my Xbox 360.
I know. Terrible. What can I say. I enjoy the FPS genre on my console, and save my Computer gaming for RTS :-D -

+1
The return of the "Geckos" and "Golden Geckos" make me a very, very happy person.
(New California Republic Rangers ftw baby!) -
to bad it's bundeled with steam
-
I haven't preordered yet, I'd like to though. Heck, I'm not even sure if I can run it smoothly on my dv6tSE. I would think so, I have all the min reqs down, but if I can't run it on high I might as well buy it for the 360..sadly.
-
I'm looking forward to it as well. Fallout 3 plays well on my machine and hopefully New Vegas will play nearly as well.
-
I'm looking to preorder either through Amazon or Best Buy (the former doesn't charge tax where I am but the latter seems to have the best preorder equipment). Either way, I'm hoping the Steam coupling won't be a problem with mods which are the reason I am STILL playing FO3.
OT Edit: Hi Joe! I knew I recognized that name.
Thanks again for all your answers a few weeks back!

I love steam. It's awesome. I signed up day one and have never experienced a problem with it.
Buying games I want for $5-20 a month or two after release is great. Installing them on all my computers is convenient and having some of my saves stored in the cloud makes it even more so.
In addition, having all my Valve games converted to Mac for free was pretty awesome.
I bought New Vegas on D2D for $39 and I am hoping the serial will pop into Steam w/o problems. -
Do you have the 3000 series with the Phenom and RADEON 5650? Then I can assure you that it will run great.
-
I've got the 450 i5 and the 5650, I can max out Left for Dead 2 with it, I'm sure i can run New vegas, but i'd like to run it on high.

>Implying that Steam isn't the best thing to ever happen to PC gaming
-
I'd prefer it came with SecuRom and GFWL....
-
Then to be fair you are in the minority. Most people love steam and have had no issues with it.
-
I don't have any problem with Steam, so I am happy with Steam. If I do have a problem with a game, verifying the integrity of the game usually solves it.
-
Sorry, thought my sarcasm was pretty obvious.
Hating GFWL is no longer an opinion, it is now a fact; same goes for SecuRom. -

Well, its not just a matter of shiny graphics, though decent graphics are nice, its the turn-based game play. I enjoyed that way back in the day but it doesn't float my boat at this stage of gaming.
As another poster said, I thoroughly enjoy the open world wandering of FO3 and Oblivion. I like games that allow me to go where I want and do what I want at any pace. -
does the save files save into the client or on their server? i have both a desktop and a laptop and i want to play the game on both systems and b able to continue where i left off. im thinking about migrating the save files every time i switch systems if they r saved onto ur client
-
They Save locally but the game supports Steams cloud storage. Basically the local save is copied up to there online storage so you can sync across the machines.
There were some problems with save game corruption but I assume they fixed the issues with this that they had at launch, but have not tested. -
from the grave!!!
why?
