Long story short, I've had Fallout: New Vegas for several months now, and until now, I've never really been able to play it. I have a desktop gaming system with a Phenom II x4 quad-core CPU at 4.0GHz, 4GB DDR2 memory and a GTS 250 1GB graphics card. It eats up Oblivion and Fallout 3, on the same engine, but in New Vegas, whenever more than one or two NPC's were visible, my frames would dip into the single digits. Combat was impossible.

Well, I found a fix for any of you who have the same problem (and it's apparently quite common, according to a Google search). Download this little .dll file, drop it in your New Vegas root folder, and run the game, and you should be set. Apparently it has something to do with facial animations causing the massive slowdowns, but I really don't think it looks any different now. But it performs a hell of a lot better.

I'm actually enjoying the game for the first time now, so hopefully if anyone else here has been in the same boat, this will help.

I have that one I think. Is it the one that replaces the video card with a 7900GS?

it works well, but I haven't been able to test if it's really a lot better yet. I used it before but it doesn't work with MSI Afterburner, presumably because of the changed graphics card. However when I took it off it didn't seem to change that much.

it seems more CPU dependent because once I OC'ed my processor to 3.1, it was a lot of smoother, as measured by fraps.

(I never had crippling frame rate issues)

The problem was fixed ages ago with the last update 5, which contains blood money dlc.
Theres no point to use the dll hack anymore.
Btw add me to the list of peoples who never had a single issue even without 5 patches, and i mostly played it on my xps m1730.
