    Hi there!

I just got my ACER 5920!!! and returned my F3s :D which is all except good...

well, to my surprise Far Cry's water has a problem, it just doesnt appear... I have updated drivers from ACER, and from LAptopvideo2go, but still doesnt get solved.

Furthermore, ArmA performance is just crap, even a lowest resolutions and graphics detail... i expected more from this GPU :(

As far as ArmA goes, I wouldn't blame that on your GPU, or even your computer. I tried running the demo on my computer, which has an 8800GTS 640MB, AMD 4200+ X2 CPU, and 2 Gigabytes of DDR2-800 RAM and my performance was... underwhelming, to say the very least. I got a constant mouse lag that made the game utterly unplayable, and on all but the lowest graphics settings my frames per second were also somewhat less than stellar. Its really a shame too, it looked like it could have been an incredibly fun game. I especially enjoyed flying the helicopter, but the developers ruined it with shoddy coding it seems.

thanks for your info... but how can i solve the far cry problem? it appears to me that the GPU drivers arent the problem, cos i have tried 4 of them, and i have played around with the nvidia pannel.

I have been playing ARMA with an 8600M GT on a Dell 1520. It plays fine. you have to play it by dual booting XP and playing in XP. Vista is what causes the slowdowns. I have tried it on both and the frame rates are DIFFERENT big time. Now, with this said, Microsoft just released a new fixpack for Nvidia cards (higher end like ours) and you also have to update your nvidia driver to the latest 163. Here is the link. ARMA rules...

Thanks for the tip, but aren't the 163 nVidia drivers still in Beta? Are they safe to use? I've never really used Beta display drivers, but it seems like quite a risk. What have your experiences been with the 163 Beta drivers? Are they as stable as the 162.22 drivers?

I did use the 162.xx drivers for last week. I then went ahead and switched to the 163 drivers last week. Been working fine. I am curious to see if the fix pack makes any difference for Vista. Switching to dual boot XP made the difference. I was soooo bummed out when I would play online and my machine would go to a crawl during heavy battles and I am thinking to myself... $1500 dollar laptop, and I can't even play the d@#m game. So I was reading some help forums and they said to dual boot. So I tried it and it really makes a difference. Now I am online and downloading all the best missions and it rocks... I think it is the best Military Game I have ever played.

To sum it up, Try the beta drivers, download the fix pack, and try it on vista first. If this doesn't do it. DUAL BOOT.

    Best Wishes,

did everything, havent tried ArmA yet, but Far Cry water hasnt been solved.

BTW, i have downloaded Bioshock demo and GRAW2 demo:

    BIOSHOCK= 25-30 fps (i estimate) at highest, 1024x768
GRAW2= 20-25fps at highest, 1024x768, and still some half second freezes.

What do you mean by dual boot btw?

As in install XP on top of Vista, so you can select which OS to boot upon startup?

I have the same problem with Far Cry on my 7950gtx. Drivers are the ones that came with my CD. The water is just aqua blue and the land near the water is also gone. Very weird.

As noted earlier, did you install the patches? Make sure you install the latest ones.

Yes, dual boot windows xp and vista. Vista will recognize xp. Lots of detailed instructions on these forums and the web but here is the gist...
    a. Create volume to install xp.
    b. Install xp
    c. Insert Vista DVD and choose recover NOT REINSTALL.
    d. In command prompt via step c utilize the fix mbr, which is messed up due to the xp install.
    e. Boot up in Vista.
    f. Use bcdedit to create boot options and 30 second timeout.

<TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK> Do you research first...
