Ubisoft Montreal is going way, way beyond the typical sequel with this stunning follow-up to Crytek's lush tropical shooter. Seriously-- read about this right now.
This game looks absolutely amazing to me. When the game was first announced, I thought it was maybe just going to be similar to all the previous Far Cry console spinoffs etc....however after reading the First Look and looking at the amazing screenshots....I can say I'm very excited about this. Maybe a little more than Crysis because they believe the AI and environments will be amazing.

Wow! That looks great!

Yeah, the fire effects and everything look amazing. If you go to gamespot and check the screenshots...they even show a series of 4 screenshots where..
The grass in front of a tree was on fire, the fire spread towards a tree, then the tree caught fire...and afterwards the tree was left all burned up. -

I've been playing the original Far Cry since it came out and it is still an awesome game to play. It is definitely one of, if not the best first person shooter for PCs in my opinion.
There is not a lot of info out there for FC2 but I am looking forward to it nonetheless. Thanks for posting the amazing screenshots. -
That's tight Chaz.
I just think that this game could put Crysis to shame...since it's still in early development...while Crysis is almost done. -

Is Ubisoft taking it out of Crytek's hands?
Ironic that the Crysis killer may end up being the sequel to the franchise the Crytek team developed. -
hey isnt Far Cry 2 supposed to use the same engine as Crysis? just a thought.
-
Here is a vid. I think it just means that you should not expect that the requirments for it will be lower than crysis

I have seen the full video and it is looking much more promising than crysis turned out to be. For all of you Realistic FPS lovers this game really does it nice at least on video -
Wow man that looks SUPER !!
Oww, I don't think my 8600M GT will handle it -
Well i think FC 2 is the sucessor of FC that we have thought Crysis to be! -

Hope it runs better than Crysis

hopefully it is more optimized than Crysis/has a better story.

Is it just me, or was the Far Cry AI not that good? Not only where they very buggy (detecting players without a line of sight, across the map or for no reason at all), but they could also shoot through tents. These shortcomings are particularly glaring seeing as the game came out at the same time as Half-Life 2... and I don't see HL2 being praised for its superior AI.

im prob gona need 3 9800 ultras in tri sli to run at best setting

Far Cry ruined my gaming life.
I waited for 3 years to get a machine to play it with full-shebang, and I was mesmerized when I played it. Now, I cannot play any game. My expectations are WAY high. F.E.A.R was the last one I ditched. None of them are in the same class as Far Cry.
Let's hope Call Of Duty 4 is. -

I'm looking forward to Far Cry 2. The consensus seems to be that Crysis was a pretty big disappointment and I don't think it was just the hardware requirements that killed it but that the game itself, while fairly fun, was nowhere near what was promised. Seeing the "A Cevat Yerli Game" credit in the opening left an awfully bitter taste in my mouth, too; he's been a little press junkie since they started developing Crysis, so it's a nice bit of schadenfreude to watch Crysis basically fail.
Far Cry 2, on the other hand...well, we've been stung by beautiful screenshots before, but I'll remain pretty hopeful. If nothing else, it looks neat. -
let's just hope they optimize it well.
-
Sure it will be on the same level of crysis...but can't they spend their time to optimize their game before making another?
It's not important how the game looks at highest settings but how the game scales on different hardware...take a look at gears or war of ut3 or Half Life 2 for example... -
how well would far cry 2 run on single 3870 and a 3870 in CF
-
I read sooo much about this and stuff
1- I am not actually really exited because there is so little info about the engine
2- Crysis has Sandbox2 and Cryengine2 and the whole point of crysis was to show off their power
3- Your just a normal guy in Africa... sure itll be wayyy more fun at first but in the long run... no nanosuit... no koreans (no offense at all)... no aliens... no futuristic vehicles and things...
Just respond to me about those and ill try to make more sense if you dont agree lol
PS: CRYTEK IS NOT MAKING FARCRY2 and THEY ARE OPTIMIZING THE CRYENGINE2 AND THE SANDBOX2 AND APPARENTLY CRYSIS WILL HAVE A MAJOR UPDATE SOONER OR LATER ONCE THEY HAVE MADE ENOUGH OPTIMIZATIONS -
Does every post have to bring up Crysis? Bloody fanboy doesn't even bother making any points relevant to Far Cry 2 and instead makes inane posts advertising Crysis to everyone under the sun.
As for my take on this game, I reckon it will end up the exclusive preserve of hardcore FPS enthusiasts with ridiculously tricked-out hardware unless optimisation is first-rate as mentioned earlier in this thread. -
Anyway I think this game will be quite heavy on your hardware. One huge, open world, no loading screens, all those physics and A.I. routines... I'd better start saving for a gaming desktop. My 8600m GT won't cut it anymore if this is how games are gonna look in 2008. -
-
I wish someone will bring out games comparable to Half Life...
Maybe FarCry2 will
I just usually expect a beautiful game with more than usual stuff (Sandbox2=Crysis, Orange Box=5 Games...) I am just saying... -
-
What do you play anyways!? -
Wait for episode 3 then, that will finish the Half Life series for good and provide what you're looking for. Far Cry 2 will be very UNLIKE the half life series.
If you're that interested in knowing what I play you can always look it up yourself. -

You did ask.
Crysis came out too early, pushed too hard, and is a glorified tech demo. Its gameplay is in many ways a step BACK from Far Cry, there isn't a gaming rig in existence that can play the game maxed out and won't be probably until at least the second half of this year. The hardware requirements are a gross overshot on Crytek's part, and the gameplay doesn't make up for it.
I remember the last time a game came out that brought everyone's computers to their knees: Doom 3. In many ways, I think Crysis really parallels Doom 3 (in terms of disappointing gameplay and punishing software), but I also think it's an even more colossal screw-up. Doom 3 scaled exceptionally well (no, really) and its obscene hardware requirements to really push it were remedied within one hardware generation. When Doom 3 was released, "high res" was pretty much 1280x1024, and the next generation's midrange (GeForce 6600GT) was able to max it out at High (Ultra didn't/doesn't matter because it offers virtually nothing) at 1600x1200.
Crysis on the other hand...we'll probably have to wait at least two generations to get a single high-end card that can run it at 1920x1200 Very High.
Personally, I play stuff like Oblivion and Far Cry, and at present I'm working on Rainbow Six: Vegas and Jade Empire (pretty damn fun for a game no one talks about). -
Jade Empire was fairly hyped when it was released for consoles, but the PC version was more low key and didn't attract many new fans. Storyline and gameplay respectable enough to take weeks off a gamer's leisure time too. -
I love how Harley usually posts after Beatsiz and tells him how he's wrong so I don't go off on a rampage, you're my anger management, thank you.
oh, about the game...this seems pretty exciting, I'm a fan of free roaming FPS's and I can't wait for Clear Sky. Hopefully they don't release this on consoles way early and make a crappy port, though. -
Crysis took that much out of this gen hardware to run, I wonder what kind of beast is required to run this game. sigh, basically means more money out of my wallet.

Please keep this under control in here - it is now, I simply don't want a huge argument that goes off-topic. Thanks.

i have it for my PS3, and i love it
....few stuttering issues but nothing im anoyyed about. im not sure how they are porting the controls over tho....going to be difficult i think.

. High would be really nice and I'd be very impressed if they managed to optimize it that much.
