So I loaded up Far Cry 2 for the first time. I noticed that while I was playing every few seconds I would here my HDD spin and my screen will stutter for a second before going back to playing smoothly. Is anyone else having this issue? Or is this a problem with my HDD?
By the way my specs are dell xps 1530, 8600m gt v179.13, 320GB(5400rpm) HDD.

Do you have any background services running that might either be competing for resources or wrangling for control for the screen?

Nah I go through msconfig and stop that stuff before it starts. Maybe I'll try rolling back my video drivers and see how that works out.

Do you have the card OC'd? That could be a possiblity.

Maybe you need to go back to some older video drivers?

If you haven't solved the problem yet, there is a fix that I found. For some reason if you enable DX10 the framerate stutters even though there are no dips in fps. I had this happen, the fix is to enter the console in-game (~ key) and type "gfx_maxfps X" where X is a number between 30-60. The closer to 30 that you set it, the stuttering happens far less. I think I have mine set to 35 and I haven't noticed any problems in one session so far.

Obviously this is an issue with DX10. Even though DX10 runs very well in this game (see Crysis, Call of Juarez), this problem basically forces people to cut down their performance manually - although 30+ fps is not unplayable by any means.

If you use Xfire (the ingame chat program) that may be the problem. Whenever I have Xfire on while playing it, it causes this issue as well.

    I've got an m1530
    2.2ghz
    2gigs of ram
    8600gt card
    Vista ultimate 64 bit

The games lags on 720X480 with all settings as low as they can go.

Anyone have this issue? I can get 28fps then drops to 15fps

Try snoozing your Antivirus if you haven't done that already.

i don't even got anti virus on yet. and yes... very small resolution... why? i guess this game requires heavy *** graphics cards. or is anyone else having luck at playing higher res with decent frame rate than me? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Maybe I have a bad card. I mean aren't the majority of 8600m gt cards flawed?
