So I went out and bought the game a couple weeks back and started playing for real the past couple days. 20% complete. I was doing alot of side missions, not knowing those don't count towards my percentage. And i'm using a 360 controller![]()
Graphics/Optimization: I don't use fraps anymore. It impairs my judgement. I just play whats playable and the game seems playable on my laptop all high/very high only medium on Shadows. Very well optimized.
Story: Where the hell is it at? I mean ya, the two armies are fighting but come on, I hope it starts to piece together.
Action: This game reminds me so much of the 24 mini series and is one of the main reasons i'm enjoying it. THe way you can use different tactics to go about a mission makes for good fun. The weapons are a bit bland but it helps that they are realistic in that they jam because they are bad quality. Self first aid never gets old. I just wish the stealth aspect would work a bit better. It also seems like it takes alot of bullets for enemies to go down. Also, the little african installations get rather tediuos after a while. While people say the driving is a drag, I dont see it as a huge problem. I don't see how it could be sandbox without driving.
Setting One of the best things about the game. Environment is detailed and the rain/sunrise/set/night/explosions look the best of any game so far (i've played all the big console games but not crysis) The random, zebra or bull is also a nice touch.
Sound Explosions and guns sound nice. One thing annoys me about the voice acting though: When you are fighting a group of africans, they all have the same white sounding south african accent.
Overall: I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys 24 haha or likes a bit of freedom in a FPS

i just wanna say that farcry2 blew me away with its graphics
i played crysis and personally i was underwhelmed by its graphics compared to the hype and the trailers but farcry2 had me saying "wow thats good graphics" so many times
also the game is the most optimized game ive played, it never gave me any trouble and i can virtually run it MAXXED out on a hd3650 ddr2 at 1280x800 all ultra high settings except shadows medium and get a very solid 20-30fps -
I've started playing this tonight and it's ok. Nothing fantastic, I wish the "sniping" from a distance worked better and I'd like to be able to drive past people without getting shot at constantly...
Oh and yeah the accent is the same accent no matter what color the soldiers are.
I actually prefer Crysis as there was much more action in it, and the sniping was better, this game is a series of hit and run events with no real link between them, so far at least...
BTW - it's Afrikaans, the accent that is. They all speak English but they have the Afrikaans accent. -
I'm playing it now on the PS3. So far I'm enjoying it.
-
still only @ 23%
-
I've had it on the PS3 for a few weeks now, and for some reason I've been stuck at 8% for a while. I've done mostly the armory missions, but I've done a few of the main missions (like 2 or 3) as well, and my progress won't budge.
-
regarding the weapons, in reality they don't jam like that, they should be alot more reliable depending on the model. otherwise the arms manufacturers are gonna get bankrupt.
-
Glad you enjoy the game, I myself not that really enjoy the shooting part. Same goes for Crysis and its expansion, the open world feel kind of pointless when picking off my enemies from far away is not as effective as Rambo style IMO. In addition, the bullet feel lacking in "impact" upon the enemies too IMO, feel like shooting paper or maybe I just get used to the feeling of Valve's FPS game.
-
I'm used to playing COD4 Hardcore where enemies go down in one burst, so Far Cry 2 was kinda irritating to me. I found it to be waaaay too long, since every mission is the same and there wasn't very many new things to look forward to. And eventually, you end up settling on one weapon combo for all the missions (e.g. mine was submachine gun, sniper rifle, rocket launcher).

Good graphics and very playable but agree with pocketaces21 was repetitive. Now its completed I don't want to replay it at all.
-
On an unrelated note, I'd really like to see a console gamer try to play CS:S with a 360 controller, it would be great fun to see their frustration as they don't get any kills and die right away every round. -

HA HA Agreed! Never got used to any controller nor do I want to
-
I do not like far Cry 2 at all. It is repetitive, the guns jamming only serve to annoy and I never see the enemies weapons jam, you have to travel miles to get to anywhere, enemies don't even go down when you do head shots and perhaps others are too caught up in the extensive world and cool graphics to notice the flaws in the game.
Maybe I will give it another chance since I stopped playing it very early on out of boredom. One other flaw I noticed is the scripting. You are expected to take a certain amount of time to complete some task or activate something in the story line but if you do it much quicker than expected you can be left waiting for the next part of the story to occur. For example, after I had completed a task one time, I walked around for about 5 minutes and suddenly it said ''great you have done it''. I had actually completed the task way over 5 minutes ago.
I would like to hear what others really like about this game. -
The things that I didn't like in FC 2 were the long and annoying "trips"!
-
I started playing FPS games in 1995 when Doom came out, using the keyboard only.
Then I had a period where I didn't play any FPS games and then I picked up Delta Force (think it was that game, something like that anyway) on the PS1 (possibly PS2) and I had to use a controller with twin analog sticks, I didn't take long to pick that up.
Then I had to retrain myself to play proper FPS games on the PC with a mouse keyboard, I started out using the mouse in my left hand because I couldn't get the hang of moving with my left hand on the keys and my right hand aiming...
Not that I'm good or anything (cos I'm not) but I'd say that using a console controller is a lot easier for FPS games than using a mouse/keyboard setup. -
-
-
I just said that console controllers when playing a console FPS are easier to use/learn to use. -
-
Great graphics but a limited campain (blowup convoy, assonation, attack fort) and the multi on xbox sucked because you had to wait for everyone to be ready before the game starts.
-
-
On a side note: Since the ps3 has keyboard mouse support, can you use it in some games? -
Wouldn't that depend on how the game is coded?
-
I'm playing on the 360 and really like it although the long trips are a pain in the !!!!!!
From what i've found there do seem to be a few bugs in the game. I for one got up to 27%, then the game got stuck, so i decided to complete all of the side missions, and collect all of the diamonds on the first map (Leboa-Sako), thinking this would open up the mission but no, went to the U.F.L.L. hq in pala to where it said i had a mission and there was nothing there. So I was pretty hacked off by this, all side missions done, all buddies rescued, all diamonds collected and the game got stuck, so in the end i started a new game. There does seem to be a lot of this at certain points in the game. Has anyone else come across this????
All in all though, I do like the game, and will be spending a few to many more hours playing it -
Fun in shooters is proportionate to success at completing the game, (With all else held equal), and a mouse / keyboard will accomplish that better. -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
10 min driving and 2 min shooting...
real boring -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
better get some other games...
-
Also, taking the bus really cuts down on driving. Im @ 54% -
What bus? All I see is static buses that won't allow me to get on!
I've been playing this for 2 nights now and I'm finding the game boring and repetitive, as has already been mentioned, it's all the same. At least with crysis there was some direction to the game and not every "mission" was the same.
Great looking game but the "sandbox" format hasn't really been done all that well, mind you GTA gets "samey" after a while also... -
I just downloaded the Cheathappens trainer just to let me move really quickly.
As for the story: ? The ending is kinda odd. -
-
I also got a trainer from cheathappens and it makes the game better. I also agree about the weapons because i have never seen an M16 with a left side ejection port and forward assist. Same with the AK and rvery rifle in the game had left side ejection ports and left sided bolts, why? Also it takes a number of shots to take down an enemy.
I agree that the missions are repetitive, it is always eithier go shoot some guy or go blow up a convoy, and the missions are almost always on the opposite side of the map.
they should rename the game, malaria merc. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Finished the game, it took me 40+ hours. I did many side missions but not all of them. I had a blast playing this game. I loved the open world and plethora of weapons to choose from. Traveling never bothered me. I just took it as part of the adventure since I would get side tracked by mercs and diamonds anyways. Not sure if I will play through it again, if I do it won't be for quite a long time. Graphics were quite good but Crysis is still better. But this game plays way better than Crysis on max settings, that's for sure.

fry cry 2 = crysis
