I was just looking at the Steam page for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon after seeing it as a preorder for a couple weeks and just noticed that it's standalone so you don't need Far Cry 3 to buy and play it. Calling back to an eighties vision of the future (2007 with lots of neon) sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm not really sure what (besides the engine) this has to do with Far Cry 3.

Anyone know about it or have some insight? $15 for a goofy developer side project, or is this a legit standalone game?

Legit standalone ~8 hour game. Be wary of negative mouse acceleration. Enjoy your review of the PC version here

I bought it yesterday. It's a lot like Far Cry 3 gameplay-wise, but with an over the top 80s sci-fi action movie theme. The villain is a rogue commando leader with a chainmail vest (Commando), the pistol is literally the gun from Robocop, the music is cheesy synthesizer to the max, the sky is red with scan lines. It's just one big homage to the cheesiness of the 80s.

hmm, I didn't notice any mouse acceleration issues, but I do always setup the mouse for each game. Game plays great, it's as described above, a stand alone 80's throwback based on the FC3 game engine set in the "future" of 2007. If you've played FC3 you'll instantly notice the similarities in gameplay (which is a huge plus IMO), but just in a new world/environment. Watch the trailer, sums it up well ha. It's a legit game, check it out.

It's an interesting game with elements of the 80's attached with the recent Far Cry 3 engine.
The videos are bitpixel in nature and although it's a fun game I wouldn't take it too seriously.

The dinosaurs are hilarious to watch and the music/audio is a tad low in output.
Otherwise it excels as a reasonable first person shooter.

Edit: feels like original tron movie but with jungle.

I cannot believe that FarCry 3 is still 50 bucks... I was hoping it was going to be around 20-30s by now :(

It's been on sale a few times for that price. Add it to your steam wish list and they will email you when it goes on sale.
