Thought I would post this thread as this title is due out real soon now.
So far IGN has a great review on it and given it praise at 9/10... wooot

    ca.ign.com/articles/2012/11/21/far-cry-3-review

Can't wait to play it...and see how it goes from a hardware perspective and engine experience...some saying it uses a heavily modified dunia engine whilst others say it's using a cryengine3 version??
TBH I really enjoyed crytek engine with Farcry 1. Farcry 2 felt a little weird based entirely in Africa...and the fires...lol..hope this one is a blast.

    :)

IGN gives a great review to ANY game that gives them money.
    - They gave NFS MW 9/10 AMAZING, and there is nothing amazing about that game. Oh wait, it's amazing how terrible it's performance is, it's amazing how terrible the lens flare, street reflections (since when do trees, cars and buildings have reflections on pavement?), and it's amazing how small the map is, it's amazing how short the game is, it's amazing how little thought was put into the game, list goes on... But you get my point.

I hope the game is good though and very curious about this map editor. But I'll definitely ignore IGN's review, not read it, or watch it and if I could, I'd fart on IGN.

Every other review I've seen has been positive too. Doesn't mean you'll enjoy it, but the critics have been so far.

+1 on IGN bought and sold, but since the dawn of time I'd figure, reflective properties of liquid water. Most of the terrain is wet, go into a tunnel, on dirt, grass or a dry section of pavement/concrete and there aren't any such reflections. However, I do agree in a realistic sense, every wet surface shouldn't be so reflective.

but this is FC3, jungle up!

If you play the game, and turn off the reflection, you'll notice there is not a drop of water. The game has no weather, no rain. It's ridiculous.

But yes, I hope Far Cry 3 is as good as the first game. I still think CryTek should have not sold the IP to Ubisoft, oh well. Anyone else curious about the map editor? Is it for making mods for SP or is it for MP?

Lots of very positive reviews, this looks promising. Can't wait to try it!

Eurogamer gave it 10/10 and the metacritic score is 92/100 (89/100 for the PC version, though).

Oh can't wait until Activision, Zenimax, Rockstar, Epic Games and THQ have their own too. So far we have Blizznet, UPlay, Steam and Origin. Only 2K Games and Eidos/Square seem to be friendly with Steam using Steamworks to me, the rest I mentioned just use Steam for convenience.

Back to the game, I get the impression Far Cry 3 might be what Crysis 2/3 should have been. I also lol'd @ Ubisoft for Dunian 1/2 engine. Appears to be just modifed CryTek engine, can't come up with a good engine on their own. Personally hate the Anvil engine, so clunky, and sluggish and terrible.

uplay, ! not another host. not heard of them before.
so does that mean if we get the disc we will still have to load this uplay malarky to host the game.
just another host that we have to sell our soul too to host games.

Wow, it seems this game will ship with mod tools and a way to share your mods with other players. That makes this a must buy IMO.

Wish there was just Steam. :p

I was whining about that when all EA games went exclusive with Origin. Other publishers will just follow suit. It just makes it horrendously inconvenient.

Just started and finished the 1st level.

Impressive textures and qualities. The realism is amazing.
    Fps is between 20~30 fps

Lot's of options in video quality too.
A tad dark in places but this creates the atmosphere..waiting for sunlight to appear heheheh
Looks like another top notch game... :)

    Nov 29th Europa :)
    Early birds :pPPP

Just a tip for everyone use HDAO for SSAO. Definitely increases the fps and makes the lighting very lifelike :)
Also, even though I am averaging between 20~30 fps it still is very smooth and fluid...

Wow just reached radio tower and sunlight has emerged and my gosh the graphics are breathtaking..
Simply the best graphics I have ever seen....remember though enable HDAO.. and put everything to max/ultra...

Well I just played Crysis 2 with MaldoHD and boy it's real close but still crysis 2 has that amazing look.
Far cry 3 has awesome lighting and shaders and it's still very very good..

I do like both and yup I will upload some pictures for ya :)

Hmm. Back to the tropical jungle setting huh. The theme has been done so many times now. From FarCry, Crysis, Just Cause 1 and 2,Turok and lots more. FarCry 2 was quite different with varied terrain . However the setting of that game was so much gloomy.

Hope this Pacific Island setting betters our expectations.

I wonder why these games are released at different times. If it's ready for Europe on the 29th, why wouldn't it be ready for the rest of the world? And since it's Uplay, they are the publisher, so what's up with that?

    To accommodate retailers.

In the US, games, CDs, DVDs, etc., are released on Tuesdays. This gives retailers time to prep on Monday night (Sundays are usually shorter hours). In most of Europe, media products are launched on Fridays. Usually this results in a game launching a few days earlier in the US. In this case, it worked out in reverse. My guess is they launched one day earlier in Europe (Thursday instead of Friday) so they might have slightly better numbers to report for the first week sales.

This 14 minute gameplay video looks even better, it's really a sandbox game. I do hope there is a way to turn off the minimap and all those quest markers, however.

    Some new pics
    [IMG]

Have played now for a good few hrs..
    Pros
Great landscape and open scale. Very large map
    Amazing image quality
    Great test of new hardware

    Cons
Shooting feels a little weird like old crysis/crysis 2 engine
Moving around will take some time
Non-linear game lots of map interaction and fast moving to avoid the long drives this could be seen as a good thing but doesn't keep you interested in what is going on for long like hitman where you move from scene to scene and don't have to cover huge distances but then again this is far cry series so traveling is/was inevitable...

Curious what others think.. How is everyone's fps going?? I get between 20~40 fps on a 6990m everything max. I can feel it a tad choppy when on the jetski looking to the sides it was not smooth kinda like motion blur is on....
The shooting scenes feel a little weird too... by this not a negative but it feels weird when compared to normal shooters like hitman, etc
Has an element of crysis in it too especially the way the characters move, engine elements, etc
Definitely returns to the original series i.e. far cry

I dunno.. I like hitman cause it's more linear and immersive/atmosphere..this one could take a while to complete..maybe that's what it's all about :)

Important question - can you turn off that ugly minimap and all the quest markers?

Also, is there an option to use FXAA instead of MSAA?

Well it's not the same as the first Crysis game since Crysis was built on CryEngine 2 engine. Dunia is CryTek's first CryEngine + DX11. And for me I thought the gun control/feel was the best in the first Crysis/Warhead for any FPS games I've played, well maybe almost best, Soldier of Fortune 2 may still be my favorite.

Unfortunately not.. :( I agree there is a huge amount of quest markers and pop-ups that occur along the way and this becomes a little annoying..you constantly have to hit esc to view what is going on removing the brilliance of the open game and beautiful scenery.
    No FXAA only MSAA options..

You should play Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3...
The rifles and shooting scenes are spot on with great recoil and sounds. This game has a strange feel when shooting with no weight to the gun..not sure if it's physics but there is no recoil or realism to the shooting in far cry 3. I will gauge it more as I go further into the game.

I will play crysis again and make a comparison soon. :)
    Ok just compared it..

Result: No comparison... recoil and gun effect in crysis is proper and excellent both when shooting normally/randomly and right mousing/zooming in the screen effect throws the person correctly backwards/forwards.It feels and plays true...

In Far cry 3 when normal/random shooting the recoil effect jerks in a weird manner. It is correct though when right mousing zooming in and the recoil effect is correct there but just picking up a gun and shooting, the recoil effect is weird with an explosion seen on the screen and no back and forwards of the body like true recoil but instead the gun moving in an upwards direction. Also the guns sound better in crysis having weight and bass. In Far cry 3 it sounds a little light more treble not sure will wait for others to comment on this one. Perhaps a tad nit-picking but certainly something I picked up...

Did you buy the game on Steam? What is the DRM like, do you still have to run the Uplay client if you are logged in to Steam?

I just played it a lil bit on the beta driver before the beta was released last night!
    In the old one I got 30-40fps everything maxed (I've np9370 w/ dual 680m)
    the new beta around 60 - 90fps!!!

but still there is a micro lag and not smooth camera movement! I don't know how to describe it (my En is bad) but it's like you but your mouse sensitivity on very low! beside the micro lags!
the utilization of both cards between 70 - 60% only! something not quit right w/ this new driver!

I'll keep playing and if anybody have some tweaks or something let us know plz.

I have both and played both and both games have the worst hit detection of any AAA FPS game I've played. Not only that, I don't like having most of my screen taken up by a gun. Both are console FPS games.

I've never shot a gun, so can't say about what feels right about recoil, but I also get the sense these game developers aren't ex-soldiers and haven't a clue either. But I don't need to have shot a gun to know when I shoot a gun at someone in the face arms length, they should die, which happens only 50% of the time in BF3 or BC2. Doesn't feel right at all. Also recoil in BF3 is minimal, BC2 was much better. BF3 is just a notch above COD i thought. I don't have to have shot a M82 to know doesn't matter where I hit the person, they are dead, a 50 calibre high powered rifle will cause anyone to explode, even a mile away. This doesn't happen in BF3 either.

How is the damage system? Do enemies die with 1 or two bullet in the head or do you need to almost empty your clip to take them down?

Anyone else from the US pre-ordered the game through Uplay? I find it irritating Ubisoft haven't sent me a key yet and a link to pre-load the game.

Also I see Ubisoft announced Tom Hardy will be playing the role of Fisher for their upcoming movie. /me trying to imagine Tom Hardy trying to use a submission move on his 360 in frustration.

If it has Yuplay, no thanks. I only found Far Cry 1 mildly interesting, and couldn't force myself to go too far with Far Cry 2. So will likely skip 3 until it goes below $15.

I'm also in the US and I was very lucky to win the Far Cry 3 drawing held by the illustrious Tsunade_Hime. Got an email from Ubisoft indicating I will be able to download the game on Dec 4.

Saw some "let's play" videos on the web and was very pleased. This will be the ultimate open world game for me, since I'm not into fantasy and similar rubbish. Two things that bother me though, AK-74 isn't customizable and that highlighting thingy.
Everything else seems in order and by the looks of those videos devs have corrected most of the annoying things from FC2 too.

This game is lethal. I've got latest drivers 310.64 and Day 1 patch installed.

FPS is shockingly bad even on low, DX9 at 800x600 - and i'm above min specs easily! :(

The game looks great but it sure as heck ain't smooth.

I noticed CPU utilisation is just 50%. And GPU utilisation jumps from 99 to 50 and back and drops again etc.

I think it needs another patch!

Do you happen to know if Assassin's Creed 3 and any other recent Ubisoft game would have this same requirement even if I buy from Steam?

If they were smart they would just like EA, force people to download Uplay if they want to play Ubisoft's zero optimized console ports.

The game is very playable (min. fps 30) on i7-820QM and slightly OCed 7970M (920/1400). Mix of high/very high settings, no AA. It looks stunning too.

Even < $15 it will still require Uplay. Maybe in 5 years or so, it could be DRM/Launch Client free.
