Not trolling or being facetious here, but after seeing the ridiculous amount of issues with FC4 at launch I shelved the game and never bothered. Now 6 months and NINE patches later (we're up to patch 1.9 yes?), is the game finally playable?*

*defined as no random crashes, stutters, game-breaking glitches, texture pop-ins, mouse acceleration issues, SLI flickering/dark shadows issue

I know if I google enough I can find every tiny little issue with every different setup, but I get the feeling a lot of that is due to PEBCAK as well.

I never got past the bit at the beginning where the Jeep crashes and you walk around hardly being able to see, and then you get ventilated by the baddies.

I don't know its SLI stability but I have GTX 870M and finished the game with 1.4 patch. The only problem I encountered was black glitches on trees that once appears then disappears but I managed to resolve it by installing 344.75 Nvidia driver.

It was a pain in the backside for me, crashes, freezes and others. At some point I was not able to take pictures anymore, which is huge problem for one mission (HAVE to take pic of dead baddie). Dropped game like a rock once GTA V was available. :)

It runs like crud in SLI...Ubisoft and all..It was unplayable for me with 980m SLI. On a single 980 (desktop) things are much better

Latest patch (v1.06 I think) made the game run wonderful on single cards because it finally fixed the streaming issue which was causing stutters. But SLI scaling is now completely garbage, like 20% or below.

FC4 and AC Unity were massive fails even by Ubifail's standards... They fixed watchdogs when I played it over July however these games still have many problems even after they were released in October and patched multiple times..

It's ok, not only did I fall for the Watch Dogs hype, I bought the DedSec edition, which is like the most expensive special edition of Watch Dogs you could buy. Sadder still I had to buy from Amazon UK since it only retails in the EU region I believe.

But that's how these makers get us. They show little snippets of the game play, get us hooked and when the game is launched all we get are freezes, black screens and patches. :(

You poor sap. I feel it for you, paying Ubisoft money.
That's because you were on single GPU. As n=1 said, multi-adapter scaling actually got completely broken after the patch. That, or he's CPU limited, and with how he's abusing that 4930K he has, I doubt he's CPU limited :D
They do, but it's a too-little-too-late kind of ordeal, and it does not excuse them for their poor releases in the first place. People should flat out stop buying their games (at least their big titles; smaller ones like Transistor seem to be fine) and if somebody like Totalbiscuit reviews it and yells at them for performance/stability/etc issues, we just wait. Wait and wait and wait and when it's on sale for under $20 we buy... and when Ubisoft finally realizes that we're just not having any of their excrement, they'll actually make the games work at launch! Or, y'know, sell only to the consoles and lose huge percentages of their market share. Or go bankrupt. Or kill all their titles for "not making money" and we'll get fresh titles in.

Any which way it seems like a good idea to me =D.

See the problem with Ubisoft is that if we stopped buying their games, they'll simply default to their "MUST BE PIRATES" victim mentality, and not ever realize it's them that needs to steup up their game (pun intended) and stop releasing broken unplayable crap that takes 6 months minimum to fix.

Well, that's all well and good for them, but if the money starts flowing in the minute they get under $20, they can't ignore that and say "must be pirates". Like I said, they can't axe their PC share of the market, because it brings them well over 1/5 of their revenue.

It's life, stuff happens and you make bad decisions.

Though nowhere near as bad as that time I blew over 5K on sports equipment on a sport that I quit playing after 4 months, and almost put myself in credit card debt. Still miffed about it to this day but it was a good wakeup call.

Wow what a difference. Legit copy via UPlay and stutter is gone for me.

Make sure you alt+tab and then use task manager to

    1. Make FC4 High Priority
    2. Set affinity ONLY to actual cores, i.e. 0, 2, 4, 6

Both help to reduce the stutter

    Really enjoying it

Even if he doesn't.. steam, uplay, audio drivers, overlays/recording programs, music, etc. Most of those are considered basic to many people.

I usually have a bunch of stuff running too but everything gets shut off as soon as I fire up a game. Not sure if it's OCD, or old habits die hard from the days when computers weren't so fast. :p

Not really. It actualy spreads the load as it only uses one core if you have them all selected

    Before
    [IMG]

    Method
    1. Start FC4
    2. When in game, press Esc and then ALT+TAB
    3. CTRL+ALT+DELETE
    4. Find FC4 and then click 'Go to details'
    5. Right click FC4.exe and click Affinity
    6. Choose only four actual cores and test

    After
I really noticed the load spread from this

    to this

Next step is to test with MipMap = 0

Shots were done back in Nov last year when I had my 5930k+2x980s rig but still work now

    Old habits die so hard.
BUUUUUUT when I had 6GB of RAM on my D900F I used to keep everything running and then game. I think I once alt-tabbed from GTA IV and *FORGOT* and then started playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. And I didn't even run into any problems with performance or anything.

    Good times...

Anyway, that's pretty much why 8GB of RAM is barely enough for browsing for me, far less gaming =D.
