I have a Dell XPS M1530 (specs below), and I downloaded the Far Cry Research Demo. With an 8600M GT, I know I should easily play Far Cry on very high. But when I did, it kinda crashed. It was running with no slowdown, but everything except for some rocks, bushes, trees, and water turned brown. I brang the settings down to high, than, medium--SAME THING. It finally managed to run on low, but that's ridiculous. I wanna take advantage of my GPU and I really wanna play Far Cry on high settings. I'm aware that there are patches for the full game, and not the demo. So, if I get the full game of Far Cry, will there be any patches or anything to fix this prob with Far Cry running high on Vista?

BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
Update your drivers to at least 169.28 from LaptopVideo2Go...
Btw, at the poster above me... nice timing xD -
Uhh, here's my current drivers according to driver properties:
Driver Provider: NVIDIA
Driver Date: 9/12/2007
Driver Version: 7.15.11.5663
Are these not up to date? Would not having Vista SP1 have anything to do with this? -
Drivers are old and look like Dell stock drivers, use one of the newer versions from LaptopVideo2Go. SP1 apparently helps system stability and helps the notebook stop crashing too often.

I was able to run FarCry smoothlly with low setting on my integrated Go 6150, its just a matter of having the right drivers. Once I updated my driver and all the ground went a grey colour, rolled back drivers and it was fine.

i tried to play farcry on the highest settings on my 32bit before, the graphics were all screwed up.. all i could see was white..
-
Yeah thats pretty much what was happening to me, everything apart from trees, rocks, enemies etc was white

Ok, so I updated my drivers, but I don't think thing will be fixed when I play the Far Cry Demo. So, I should get the full game, install that 1.4 patch, and it'll work than? I'm willing to risk it (hey, its like $10-$15).

buy it somewhere you can return it
the patch does sound promising.. -

I installed the 1.4 patch, restarted my machine and started again,. this time you could see the grass moving in the breeze, i could only play it on low but... it was great.
