    Hi! :)

I've searched for this problem (or similar), but I did not get any hits, none whatsoever, so I created this thread.

I bought Far Cry and installed it on my notebook (specifications in my signature), it figures my notebook is apt for "Very High" performance mode. All good. I start it, the video loads and all that, I configure the controls, and it loads. Now here comes the problem.

All I see is white screen (with very, very light outline of the rocks and objects), and I can hear the sound. So I turned everything to a bare minimum, and restarted the game. Now I can see the character and everything, but I get 5-10 FPS. :( Anyways, I go through the training part, and go outside, I see the trees well, but instead of the grass and the water, all I see is a white sheet (??).

Clearly my notebook can handle this game, so what's the problem? I think it's the drivers? Which drivers are the best for Far Cry?

    Please help!

    Thank you!

Just a guess, but perhaps some compatibility problem with 64 bit vista?

Anyway, update your driver and install the patch as Chaz said. No problem here. I have the free ad-supported version.

I have a 32 bit OS (Windows Vista Home Premium). I am sure this is a driver problem. Have you applied any patch?

No... FarCry ad supported version works right after installation with 169.09. For some reasons the ads have disappeared and the game functions just like the full version.

Btw... I thought 32 bit OS doesn't support 4GB of ram?

Yes, a 32 bit OS does not recognise 4 GB of RAM. Mine sees it as 3.5 GB, and it's fine by me. I'm going to buy Vista Ultimate when SP1 comes out, and I hope to download all my softwares (like Winamp, Spybot S&D etc) and drivers in 64 bit support by then. It's the games that bother me.

Anyways, I've solved the problem, it was infact drivers. I removed 163.69 and installed 169.04 (which I had on my PC) and it now works great on the highest settings! :D Awesome game! I'm playing it all over again, after 2 years or so, as how it's meant to be played. Now I can see water and grass instead of a blue bedsheet and a green bedsheet respectively, finally! :D

And oh I installed the latest patch as well, 1.4 (the cumulative one, which had all the earlier ones in it), but it still didn't work. Then I changed the drivers.

    EDIT -

Chaz, I'm sorry buddy I have to spread some rep around to rep you, and Patrick Y. I have repped you! Thank you!

How do I find how much FPS I'm getting?

    Install FRAPS:
    http://www.fraps.com/
Install it, then run it. When running, it will display a counter in one of the corners of your screen (you can specify which one) of your FPS.

FRAPS is a great benchmarking tool too. Go over to the FPS tab, check "MinMaxAvg", "FPS", and "Stop benchmark automatically after 60 seconds". Press F11 (default) to star the 60 second benchmark. You can find the results in a file called FRAPSLOG.tx in the directory you installed the program.

I knew about FRAPS. I was asking for something inbuilt, like there is in UT2004. Press the ~ key, and type statfps, and there you have it. I'm going to download FRAPS now though, thank you once again.
