    My desktop computer specs:

    2.4 ghz E6750
320 mb 8800 gts video card
    4gb ram
    Vista Home premium 32 bit.

I think I exceed the recommended specs for Far Cry 2, and yet, I can't even play it on max settings. I have to play using Direct x9, because x10 is too laggy.

RIght now I have it on Direct x9, 1650x1080 resolution with the settings on medium. THat's all I can get without lagging/stuttering.

Is this to be expected...or should my computer be able to pull off max details w/directx10?

I don't have the game, but from what I have heard, Far Cry 2 is made to take full advantage of Quad Core processors making it run slow on your dual core processor. The way to fix this since you don't have a Quad core processor is to download a patch that I bet is on Far Cry 2's main page.

Far Cry 2 eats up a lot of video memory, try lowering the resolution.

just because you exceed the recommended specs doesnt mean you can play something on max settings smooth

i cant play it smooth on a 8800m GTS at 1440x900 max settings

The 8800 GTS isn't the holy grail of video cards :D

Why don't you try 1280*1024, Max, obviously no AA, instead. That will look better than 1680*1080 medium and perform similarly.

    >.> 512mb cards still struggle with the game at higher resolutions, a 320mb card just won't cut it for this kind of game at higher resolutions. AA and the resolution are the first things your gonna have to turn down. You should be able to play at high settings at 1440x900.
