Hello guys! I really need some advice on this problem .

I just installed Far Cry3 (awesome game, awesome graphics btw). However I noticed that the game is killing my cpu...9/10 times the cpu usage is around 70%(somtimes even 80%, quite high if you ask me), this causes to heat up the CPU real good. It gets about 88 degrees celcius (somtimes touch the 90 ). I really can't figure out why the cpu usage is this high.

    Some general info:

    Notebook: msi gt683DX
-Gtx570M (overclocked to 730/1460/1780, it is stable on stock voltages)
-i7 2670QM (i use turbo mode when gaming).
-I use turbo fan (100% fan)
-GPU gets around 70 degrees celcius
    -Latest beta gpu driver.

    Settings in game:
    -Everything ultra.
    -Msaa 2
    -Vsync Off
    -Buffered frames: 3
    -average fps : 45

Other intensive game i played on this laptop is Hitman Absolution:
    -Everything ultra, no AA
    -Cpu usage <30%
    -Cpu temp: 67 Degrees celcius
    -Gpu temp 65 Degrees celcius

Anybody know what the problem could be?? I really want to play this game, however if my cpu keeps getting 90 degrees celcius I reallly am afraid of burning my cpu to bits of charcoal...

90 degrees is high, but not high enough to destroy your CPU. Most CPUs will run up to 100+ before they shut down to prevent damage.

I would expect patches to help address some of the performance/optimization issues.

I think it just launch today in Europe, and yesterday in Australia.

Ok I will keep an eye on updates :). It would be ridiculous if this high cpu usage would be normal. Also i thought i did read somewhere this game is better optimized for AMD cpu's, am i right on this one?

If anyone has problems with there i7's as well, i would be very pleased if you can post it here as well!

Lol 90C is nothing! Try 95C at 100% continuous load for 24 hours. I have done that and nothing melted or burned.

It didn't throttle at that temp either :D

i7 2720qm is working well, all cores are running ~85% at 80 degrees C. The stuttering is horrible though, I have 55fps average but it feels way to jurky to enjoy!

Its just hard to believe the game is this cpu intensive, AC3 is even less cpu intensive on my computer ....

I know the max temp on the i7 2670qm is 100C, however i feel uncomfortable around 90 already, i like it to be no higher then 85 :).

If you want to play it you have to do a repaste job.

2nd - gen Core i7 should be more than enough tu run FC3 fluently, which hasn't proved CPU demanding so far (yet it's has just been released so we don't get many reviews).

Temperatures are not high either, but I agree withthe thermal paste change recommendation and invest some money in buying a proper one (made for laptop processors specifically).

I just have the laptop for about 2 months...I don't see why i need to re-paste it because its only on this game the thing gets smokin hot. On Bf3, Ac3,Borderlands 2, Hitman absolution, crysis 2, etc. the cpu never hits 70 degrees Celsius. So I really don't see why i have to repaste it...

For now i leave the game until some more patches are available. Hope they also fix the stutter as rusty_dough mentioned, the game isn't even fun to play when the stutter appears.

Also will keep my eye on this topic: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/632848-far-cry-3/64781624. The guys seems to have high cpu usage aswell.

Just played it first time tonight. Although the game is fluid I also have regular stuttering which is annoying. The CPU however only hit 76C max and that at a light OC.

Weird that you get almost 10 degrees celsius less than me. Can i ask what cpu you have? And maybe most important: what is your highest cpu usage you get?

He got that low temperature because stock clocks of his CPU for 4 cores are about 2.3Ghz more or less. When he say slight it possibly means just couple more multipliers. While your laptop goes up to 3 Ghz or so.

    See a difference?

The 920XM hits 3.2 GHz one core == 2.9 GHz 4 cores. Let's say 3 Ghz which his OC. That's not really low enough to warrant a 10 degree difference.

You are right. I was wrong. Then difference may be in game resolution or drivers or different level or else.

OC was simply 20x across 8 threads. Not a high OC at all. CPU usage seemed to get into the 80s% now and again. Will have to set core temp to make a log file to check properly.

I am going to try 23x today where I fully expect temps to climb over 80C. Also I run the game maxed at 1080p. Got to use this 7970M for something :D

How does your 920XM compare to a 3610qm or 3630qm? I have an 820QM and I'm considering upgrading to a new laptop, but can't find many options with 3720/3820/3840qm, the 3610/3612/3630qm is so much more widely available. Since recent games seem to be better optimized to make use of faster CPUs, less GPU-bound, the choice of CPU has become more important for gaming.

It's a little CPU heavy; at 3.8Ghz on 4 cores the max temp was 83C

Crysis 3 is the one to look out for ;)

    Hey,

Wanna give you guys an update :). I did played the game for a couple of hours now and it seems to be a little bit better now. I have all patches, the latest beta drivers and cranked the settings up a little. I have set everything on max including post fx, i put AA on 4, and changed hdao (better for amd chips) to hbao. Now my cpu setlled around low 80 degrees. Still my fps is pretty good. Around 35-45 on average. I'm really happy with the temps, framerate and how awesome the game looks :)!

I don't think the game is particularly CPU heavy. I have a 2630qm and a GTX 680M. I play far Cry 3 at mostly high settings with water set to medium at 1920 x 1080. I am on the Nvidia beta Drivers 310.61 and I get 55-77 fps, mostly 60 fps and my maximum CPu temperature was 67C and my maximum GPu temperature was 81C but it is usually around 78C.

For the first few minutes of each game, I get a slight stutter and then it disappears completely.

Only there's a saving bug now that can ruin the entire experience without having to wait for processor to overload.
