When I start up the game, I get a black screen and it stays that way. Just a black screen. When I open task manager, this picture in the middle of the screen with a guy and a girl, telling me the version of the game. But it just sticks there and nothing happens, and after a while I just turn of the game via task manager. I have the legit version.

is it farcry 1 or 2
this is only a guess but 1 is quite an old game and might not be compatable with windows 7 -

Farcry 1 does play on Win7 64bit , but the patch/update is only 32bit only ???
you could try updating you dx drivers, always a good start.

Update, all of a sudden, the game started, but all the textures were weird and messed up, so I updated the game with the 1.4 Cumulative match, and now I get the same black screen, it doesn't start.

Not again. No one else can help?

Have you installed all the patches? I had the same issues and installing the patches fixed it for me. Make sure that you install them all in the right order.

Another update.
Patch version 1.1 makes the textures better, so no more messed up textures, however when I step into a shadow, like under a palm tree or in any kind of shade, my hand turns completely brown, and my gun turns completely grey, so those textures mess up in the shade, and when I try any patch higher than 1.1, I get the black screen. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Sometimes FSAA and HDR do not like each other on this game with the HDR patch (1.4) and the textures go whacky. Make sure you have 1.4 installed.
1. Set the game to all medium settings, turn off AA.
2. Restart the game and set everything back to very high (leave AA off)
3. Then use Systemcfgoverride.cfg to add the HDR (can't remember but there is a setting in there somewhere).
Give that a shot see if it helps. -

Thing is, whenever I start the game with patch 1.4, the game starts, but the screen is black and it doesn't change

I'm almost in tears. FarCry is making me want to smash my computer against a wall. Why does no one else have this problem? Everytime I start the game with a patch newer than 1.1, all i get is a black screen!!! This is soooo frustrating, and I am 100% sure that my computer is good enough.
Guys I begg you now, heelp mee! -

This is probably annoying you guys already, but this issue seems to be happening only to me, which is really strange. Does anyone have a solution?

Maybe GMA X3100 is your problem? Isn't that like a 2-3 generations ago onboard graphics? It's not really meant to play 3D games.

Farcry 1 is pretty low spec , the box says 3d card - geforce 2 64mb / ati 8500
according to the link below , it is playable on low settings on the x3100 , maybe a video driver update is required.

Two above posters, you are really making me feel bad. i solved the issue, with a reinstall, re patch, and extension of memory on my partition.
For your information I run Far Cry Maxed out, with AA and everything enabled.
Nuff said, NEVER underestimate the X3100, Stalker Call of Pripyat is playable on high settings with it. -
I'm sorry but I'm calling BS there is no way an x3100 can run anything that new on high, unless your res is like 400x300

There you go, this guy is an x3100 tester like me, and it isn't fake. -
On my old Acer with x3100, T7500 and 2GB RAM I was running FarCry on all High no AA, at 1024x768 I believe, that was the best I could go.
FYI I've experienced the problem you describe when I was trying to apply higher settings - for example switch everything on "Very High" or set the resolution at 1280x800 and so on. -

I solved the problem, but thanks anyway.
