having played all of these games i have to say:
1-far cry 2 is defenitely not 10/10 material but at the same time it's not a bad game either!.....i acually liked it, it tries something new and almost pulls it off!.....every one of these games offers something specific and excels at it, HL gives you story, puzzles and variety....far cry 2 gives total freedom and seamless, lush world to explore with hectic firefights.....crysis is a mix of the two and CoD4 is a bunch extremely linear but non-stop actions scenarios.......every game has something to offer and you'd better play all of them..

2-CoD4 has the best story ever in shooter!!!!!!! that's kinda a bald statement i think......i though CoD4's story was crap and had nothing to do with reality!, i know and read a lot about political situations and conflict's in the middle east and to me this game was a pure fantasy and a very bad one at that!!......still i liked it because the action-sequences were just awsome....i think the HL series has the best story in a shooter ever with the first deus ex game maybe...i think everyone agree with me about that..

3- far cry was 10/10 game untill those mutants showed up!...afterwards the game got boring and very unintresting!, the fights with the mutants(i think they were called triands if memory serves me well!) were just frustrating and simply not fun and since the game continues like this untill the end it left me with very bad impression and i almost forgot about my terrific fights against the mercenaries early on!!....

Very disappointed. While environments are lush, shading and atmospherics are 2-3 years old. I've got it maxed on my laptop @ 1680x1050 with 8x AA and I still average 38fps. Lots of room for improvent. I will give them props for finding a way to get DX10.1 to run on nVidia GPUs. Post processing resembles a bleach bypass and soft light layering of the frame, which gives everything kind of a sickly glow.

Gameplay is extremely predictable, character manipulation is mundane and unusable, acting is eh, Feels much like COD4. I thought a couple times that I was in and expansion of COD4 or something. Editor would not launch, switching to 1680x1050 while in the main menu causes the game to become unresponsive, and there are strange model glitches from time to time.

Just another game that starts with the character getting sick or something blowing up, only to wake up with the *thump thump... thump thump* blurred screen fading in and out, then throwing you right into the action. While the scenerios were new, the gameplay is very unoriginal.

My opinion? Skip this game, wait for Fallout 3 to come out. I've already sold FC2 to my friend. 8 hours was too much.

Personally, I don't mind the game. Sure, there are several things that annoy me greatly. I still think it is a decent game. It sure as hell failed to live up to its hype, but so did Crysis...This game is so much better than Crysis in my opinion. Even though Crysis was much more interactive, I couldn't stand the whole idea of it. Seems to be some personal irrationality that is driving me to like this game.

Actually, 54Gb/s stock. But, memory bandwidth has the least effect on performance. Core and shaders make the biggest difference. He is right that the 9800M GTX is better than the 8800 GTX in SOME situations, where memory performance isn't weighed as heavily. And there is more memory on the 9800M GTX than the 8800 GTX anyways.

The 9800M GTX's theoretical shader processing power is 420 Gigaflops which is a tad less than the Desktop 8800 GT which has 460-500 Gigaflops based on the overclock. Maybe if the 9800M GTX is insanely overclocked, it can match that of the Desktop 8800 GT.

the memory cant used effectivly because of the 256-bit interface, 512mb or 1 gig it doesnt matter , the 9800GTX is closer to a 8800Gt not a GTX.

ehh, this is a farcry 2 gameplay thread xD

oh were talking overclocked situations here. Stock clocks, its a tad bit weaker than the 8800 GT, but the 9800gtmx overclocks a crazy amount. some serious overclocksing.

getting back to gameplay , the only thing that really bugs me is the amount of time spent travelling rather than shooting ppl to progress story.... and in the multiplayer how ppl have incredible amounts of health (compared to cod 4)

Why not use Nvidia ratio scaling thingy in the control panel?

It makes resolutions lower from the native settings look a bit nicer.

It's a different issue, you see FC2 does not have true widescreen support, it just crops the picture to an odd 4:3 ratio no matter what resolution you play it at. This workaround corrects that issue and the game looks much better.

so just to make sure, you keep completing the "!" mark missions on your map and that counts towards the progress right? cause ive done two and it says only 8% of act one is complete, this could be a very long game? Or are there only certain missions you are suppose to do while the "!" mark ones are only optional?

What's with all the negative things?

Most people who are being negative are critisizing it for being an open world game. Complaining because you have to drive across the map? Oh boohoo, i'd rather drive across the map, that's the whole point, you can take various ways to get there, and if you choose to drive, you'll have to either aviod or take down the constant patrol cars and gaurd posts you drive past. The game has alot to offer, if you'd rather not have to do any work at all to get to the objective then the game would get very boring, very fast, you may as well be playing it in noclip with infinite HP, would that solve your complaints?

To me, the graphics are great too. It has great visuals, all of the nice lighting effects, a full real-time day/night cycle, nice high res shadows on everything, and runs great. The only thing I would have loved to see, was some steep parallax mapping on the textures, it really adds ALOT to the visuals, and wouldn't tax the system too badly. Most of the game has a very sharp, colorful feel to it, it's a welcome change over the gritty over saturated games these days. I've had alot of fun playing it, I've been playing it for probebly 14 hours and I'm at 55% it's been alot more fun than most other FPS's I've played recently. I love the map system too. It just works, and works well.

There are some negative things I have to say though. For starters, there's too many patrol cars! Also, patrol cars shouldn't be allowed to drive twice as fast as you can. They catch up to you immediately, and in my case, either blow up your car by gunning it down and you die instantly, or I jump out of the car only to be run over the second I get out and die instantly. I've probebly died over 30 times just by getting out of a car, and without even realizing I was being followed, I get run over, dieing instantly. There's also a problem where enemies can fire at you while facing the opposite direction. It looks really awkward. Real weapon customization would have also been a very welcome addition, that wouldn't have taken much time to impliment either. Some of the audio is screwed up, people talking is too low, and some weapon sounds are waaaay too loud, such as the SMG's, and pistols. I'll turn up my audio system to near max just to hear the people talking, then fire a pistol, and it'll be nearly loud enough to shatter my desk, and cause hearing loss.. Lastly, the window thing, yea I have to agree that this is just a little rediculous that you can't climb out, or into a window on a building, and mabe even add animations for rock climbing. There are many spots in the game where the rock is inclined slightly, enough that any real person could climb up it with ease, but not in the game.

Overall though, the game is fantastic!

Fcuk me man, 8 hours? Sick Burn to the folks who spent years developing it.
I think the game is really good. Its not perfect but when you talk about originality you shouldn't talk so harshly. Games are generally have recycled gameply. There are only so many places you can go with FPShooters without making them original just for the sake of it. Played in Fullscreen with high res and max settings the game is just beautiful. Plays smoothly and does exactly what it says on the tin. Its an immersive game. I my only advice to people is to play it in small doses otherwise you'll get fed up of all the travelling.
I reckon its a quality game. I also can't wait for Fallout 3

I did that. Twice. Probably hit the tilde key(~) 100 times. Must have been a glitch or something, because since I rebooted it hasn't happened again. Should have mentioned that I knew how to turn the console ON...just couldn't get the ****ed thing to turn OFF. I'm not quite that stupid...

On a somewhat related note, I couldn't get my FPS to display using the console. According to the console it should be working, but no dice. Anyone have any ideas?

    *Sigh*

Buyer's remorse is setting in; I am on the verge of uninstalling this promising yet underdeveloped game.

I have not died once in the game, but, thanks to a bug or error in the map's landscape, I have had to restart entire portions of missions a number of times because of geometric issues.

For example, I once restarted a mission due to falling in a cavity in the map and being trapped by my dunebuggy vehicle.

I do not have much faith in a patch rectifying some of these issues, as some of the problems I have encountered seem intentional, e.g., not being able to jump over the smallest of obstacles.

i guess it would have been too demanding (well for the damage anyway) i guess they would rather throw out a game which many could play but some wouldnt like then make an amazing game which not as many would be able to play fully but all of them loving it.

i got my copy today, game is astonishing, i dont care about the Crysis fanboys that are Zomg the shadows are 1% better in Crysis, Farcry 2 is Epic, gameplay is amazing, juge variety of weapons and.... IT HAS FIRE!

and i'm amazed about the Huge draw distance that it has, no objects popping etc. Performance is great, although SLI indicators show that the cards are not being 100% Utilized , well i'll have to wait for newer drivers.

Crysis fanboys think Crysis looks better? I don't think so. Fact is, Crysis looks better no matter if you though the actual game was kinda dumb, as did I, but the visuals in Crysis far surpass that of Far Cry 2. Without question or doubt.

Here are some comparative screen shots I took. Both maxed at 1680x1050 8x AA.

Man, infamous difficulty is pretty hard. Do-able, but harder than most games I've played on highest difficulty.
