The 6800 Go actually is, there is a Sager and an ASUS(Z81sp) with them, both in 15.4" shells.

Mind you, they are heavier and bulkier then most 17" laptops haha ;)

hmmm... surprising but you are totally right... I checked their specs and they are indeed heavier than or same as 17" and have the same battery life as 17". In that case, I would rather go for the 17", since the whole reason for going with 15.4" is the lesser weight and longer battery.

Are there any laptops that are lighter and have longer battery life with these cards ?

they problem with those (at least the z81sp) is that they use friggin pentium 4s that need ridiculous cooling systems just to keep the computer running (i speak from experience.... -_-; ;). i don't know if you've seen this already, but here's some 3dmark05 scores for some current video cards:

for a 17" the toshiba p105 is fairly light (7.4 lb supposedly) and comes with the 7900gs (performs slightly less than the 7800gtx).

Right now, as stated, the fastest you'll get is the Radeon X1600/Nvidia Go7600. The Go6800 is technically the fastest as posted by coriolis, but the X1600/Go7600 are pretty much equal in performance.

It's preferable to go for a Core Duo notebook nowadays.

toshiba p105 looks very impressive, except... except for the WXGA only option for the display... I want ATLEAST WSXGA while WUXGA would be nice too... that is the one and only reason I am not going with Toshiba... now, if someone can show that I am wrong and that they do have the WSXGA, I will certainly be interested in it....

the dell is a nice choice....it's about 8ish lb. the firegl 5200's performance is slightly less than the x1600. it's found in the new hp nw 8440 (15.4"). they also have the x1600 in the 17" hp 9420 (7.4 lb).

I remember reading that dell once offered a 7800GTX in a 15.4" notebook. In one of their percision notebooks. But its not an option anymore. Maybe because of heat issues. A 6800 is the most powerful but the X1600 not far behind.

you can mod the precision with a 7800 gtx

i dont think one exists i think the one modded was to a 68000 ultra.

I think its unique it wasnt for sale from dell. the precision came with a quadra card.

Its more than possible that the new m65 can be modded with the 79000 gtx, following these form factor similarities from the last model run, IE the card from the xps m170 fit in the m60, perhaps the card from the xps 1710 can fit in the m65.
dont go buying anything based on my speculation.

edit it was the m90, the old m90 was 15 inch wuxga screen. the new one is 17 inch screen. speculation is now much lower.

its is very much likely you can put the 79000 gtx in the old m90 but that it wouldnt recognize it in bios.

this modded m90 was on sale in notebookforums for what it matters, after the mod.
If you can call a discontinued dell model that was ridiuclously expensive when new and rare now one of your options
and youew not afraid to find and install the gpu yourself
the dell m90 is the most powerful gpu 15 inch notebook.

Yea.. I was thinking about the Precision M70 and yes it's a mod. Wasn't sure before if dell actually released it with a 7800GTX or not. But now I know ;)

ok well then the model were looking for should be called the precision m75 then.

if the precision m75 is on dells roadmap it will be available with a powerful quadra gpu and possibly be card compatible with the xpx 1710

whats key in this is that the odm made a 15 inch that takes the type 3 cards, dell just didnt want to sell an inspiron version. You dont need a 17 inch laptop to use the top of the line cards

the laptop vendors just dont want you to have one.

making the laptop 2 inches wider doesnt disapate heat better necessarily. the whole gpu and heat sink could in theory fit in a 12 inch laptop. the component is actually quite small, smaller than the hard drive.
marketing has told these vendors that more money can be juiced from consumers by making small and gaming mutually exclusive.

giving the gaming capability in the size that everyone wants would eliminate sales of the large ones.

you keep waiting for the new gpu to come out for the small laptop... and it will never happen. The next gen of gpus will come and the one you need will always be in the biggest laptop

right now its x1600 or 7600. whatever the next gen is, say 8600 and 2600, they will be the same. I mean theyll be better than these ones, but theyll be worse than what you want too relative to the top end.

what im trying to say is.... the 7800 go wont come out in a 15 inch laptop. you cant have it. you cant have what you want, if you could you would only buy one computer. You need to buy a computer thats lacking something you want, so that you will buy another one sooner. If you have a 12 inch, you need a desktop.

you need to have a laptop that hurts your shoulder to carry if you want to game, so that youll buy a small one next time just to browse emails.
