Hey i'm buying a new notebook soon and i'm not really a major pc gamer but thought i might get a few good games to play now and then... I was just wondering what everyones favorite games were and what you would recommend as a good game for someone new to pc gaming, my notebook is gonna have an ATI x1600 so it should handle the majority of the games you can throw at it...big fan of war games, racing games, and flight sim/combat games but will take suggestions for anything, thanks

-
also, i'm planning on getting a notebook with the x1600 but if for some reason i ended up with the x1400 or something, how well would BF2 perform? could you still run it on decent settings without it crashing?
-
yep ^^^
and keybord is fine to run the games (and mouse...cant play on a touchpad like me can you)
-
FPS: FEAR and HL2 series, Halo is good
RPG: Never Winter Night, Dungeon Seige 2
RTS: C&C General, Dawn of War, Rise of Legend
Future game: Titan Quest look good, Supreme Commander is Total Anihilation reborn.
Who care about Halo2 anyway
HAve a nice day -
The ClueFinders 4th grade Adventures! man i love that game! even now!
-
I really enjoy Medal Of Honor: Allied Assualt. It's an older game and can be found for cheap (about $10). Loads of fun if you like FPS.
-
Shooters:
HL2 9/10
BF2 8/10
America's Army i would give this game a 10/10 but since its also free! i give it an 11/10 -
One more HL2. Still runnin through the first one, and deathmatch owns my soul! I've never clicked so much in my life.
-
Counter Strike Source 12/10
Haven't stopped playing since i bought it. -
CS:S (that never gets old). Ohh, and if you liked half life 2, you NEED to get half life 2 episode one. BF2 is one of my favorites (even though it gives me trouble ALL the time). I just got ghost recond advanced warfighter, that game is INSANE. It runs so smooth on any system, but has insane graphics, check that one out too.
-
Dont forget Quake 4...so far every game stated in this post i would recommened also..but quake 4 is just pure action..check it out!!!!
-
I just purchased a MSI 1039 with the X1600
between these 3 games, which should i buy first (cant buy more than one rt now)
1. FEAR (arent there like 3 versions ie director cut etc..)(which is best)
2. Quake 4
3 HL2 -
Ohh, Quake 4, didn't think of that one, it should play great on a new computer, I was playing it on my old pc (2.6ghz P4, gig-o-ram, x700 Pro) and it ran like CRAP. Ha, bet itll run pretty sweet on x1600 graphics.
-
I agree with the Quake 4. I couldn't put my mouse down!
-
FEAR, its spooky, imersive, and it will push your computer to the limits (good way to put her through the paces). Don't waste your money with the directors cut.
-
Definately Get HL2 it comes with Counter Strike Source as well so you get 2 games.
Half Life 2 has great storyline and has brilliant single player and multiplayer action.
Counter Strike Source is the best online multiplayer game in my opinion. I don't like WoW etc. -
Yeah, Mazza is right, half life 2 is by far the best bang for your buck, I suggested FEAR because of how great it would look on his new laptop.
-
Yeah I agree with Spookyu that FEAR is a better looking game but for playability HL2 is the top
-
Thanks guys.
I am going to buy FEAR just bc my brother has HL2 and is going to send it to me soon.
quick question--when gaming, my laptop seems to get pretty **** hot and the fan is always bumping..what components exactly are working/stressed the most during gaming besides the GPU and fan? -

The RAM is used extensively while gaming, that can heat up, but not as much as the processor or video card.
-
Thanks chaz
my CPU is a Turion 64 MT-40 2.2GHz with a 2GB DDR400Mhz (2x1GB) RAM
the GPU is a ATI Mobility Raedon X1600 256MB
the fan(only has one) bumps while gaming and the exhaust air is really really hot...but it runs smooth
think im ok without a cooler? -
thanks for all the advice guys...just can't wait to get my new notebook and try some of them out

BF2 runs just fine on x1400 and is an excellent game. I install BF2 on any new laptop I get or format before updating my antivirus
x1600 though is a much more powerful card. I don't know about your budget, but judging from your photo I'm sure you'll love Alienware's Superman Area 51 with ATI's x1600

was thinking antec pad
here is a picture of the bottom of my laptop..it only has one fan located at the back -
oops heres the pic

The Targus Chilllmat is not a bad cooler, consider that. It is plastic though, and not as well built as the antec or vantec pads. Take a look at the Vantec LapCools.
