I am still running the DOX 182.05 as the performance is unmatched, but I am starting to run into bugs in the newer games and I know if I update to the latest drivers a lot of my whoes will be gone. This is the longest I have ever stuck with a driver in my life! I usually have the latest beta out installed.

Anyone OCing with this driver set and if so how is it going?

Hows the overall performance and stability?

I am going to get them installed in a bit (internet is SLOW tonight only getting about 20k so its going to be a while) and then report back here with what I find.

So far so good for me. I used the desktop version, and there was no nCP, and now I'm on their notebook version, they're good enough till now.

It's a good driver, at the level of Dox's 182.46 for me.

Got it on now and seems to be performing quite well. Lost maybe a frame in Far Cry 2 so nothing to complain about as I would rather lose a frame in one game and have all the latest optimizations and bug fixes.

From playing Crysis, temps are now up to 87C from 82C on the stock drivers, but it does feel smoother. Im not sure if im being fair on that but I am nearing the halfway mark where there are a lot more explosions and suck to make my stuff hotter so meh :p

A lot of reports that these are on par with DOX driver. I have them downloaded and don't wanna install them since I'm still happy with the last round of DOX drivers and I just don't wanna say good bye to DOX drivers. Why, oh why did you....people have to annoy DOX!?!

Dox is someone who modifies drivers for maximum performance and posts them for public use.

You can find his posted drivers over here.

I didnt have this issue on my install but I had no control panel after my initial install of DOX, but it came back after a later install which was done after clean installs of other stock drivers that had working CP. DOX mentioned in one of his newer drives something about changes to make sure the control panel installed.

So dunno if nvidia ran into the same issue dox faced with his drivers where sometimes the cp doesnt install.

ok thanks. I finished reading that thread and saw that he installed desktop drivers on a notebook and that was the problem.

So overall, 185.85 is working good and would you recommend it?

BTW, in the past I've always just downloaded and installed the new driver. many people say to uninstall the old drivers first. Is this really necessary?

Sucks because your 3dmark06 score dropped and you promptly uninstalled or sucks because you've had problems gaming? :p

Anyone have the links for Official Nvidia 179.XX drivers?
I loved that rather than the 185 but right now I am not being able to find those 179 drivers.

archived drivers can be found HERE below the search box.

loaded the beta 185.81 last week and the official 185.85 over the weekend and found my temps. went up roughly 3-4c with the official drivers.
will monitor for a couple of more days.

All my games play just as good if not better with this 185.85 versus the DOX 182.05 and all the newer DOX drivers gave me problems and worse frame rates so those are out the window. I haven't had a single problem with these new drivers and all the components work flawlessly these are most definitely keepers for me.

I love how people install a driver and bench it on 3dmark and then decide from that alone if they keep the driver or not. I have lost 300 points in 3dmark06 from a driver before and got better fps in the games I was playing at the time. It just has no bearing on actual game performance I can't understand why people think that is translates directly into fps in their games.

Anyways sucks for those people, but this driver is killer for me. I ran some benchmarks in UT2, Source Engine and Far Cry 2 and everything is smooth and great.. couldn't care about benching it in 3dmark as it has bearing on my actual game fps though so don't ask me!

On DX9 Games that use Pixel Shader 2.0/3.0 my FPS always reflects the 3dmark06 score. (D3, All FEAR's, Far Cry old stuff like that).

It of course is logical that newer games like crysis that use newer api and technology that isnt tested for would not always reflect the same way. 3dmark06 is a good way of testing driver changes for older games then testing a single game against it.

It however is outdated, will not reflect the performance of new games. I found my stock 179.xx did better on medium in Crysis then the DOX 182.05 did in medium, but it did 4fps better in high. I dont think vantage is a good test of newer games as it is a test of what will possibly used by some games, not all games will handle physics using the same api so thats one example of why Vantage wont reflect performance of many games.

I did not test crysis on the new driver as i was having other issues at the time but I will get around to it.

I notice that with 185.85, there is a slight delay with the digital vibrance. I used to see the digital vibrance make even the logon screen more colorful but since the update, I've seen that about 10 seconds after I log in, the screen color increases and I can tell that the digital vibrance just turned on.
    Anyone else see that??

So far, running this on a Asus G1s with Windows 7, it's pretty stable. Only had a few instances of games crash on me, but everything is running smoothly within all the games (CSS, Empire: Total War, etc).

I think we should all move onto 3dvantage, as 3d06 gives false scores based heavily on CPU score vs GPU

DMC4 should be used more often. CPU does not mean much for this test, and GPU performance is fairly linear.

Well I loaded these drivers and got about a 1200 better gpu score (vantage) than with stock drivers/stock clocks. Average temp seemed to go up a couple degrees, but not enough to be worried about.

The problem i had with this driver before has been solved.

I looked around my laptop and remembered that i had not gotten any of these driver crashed until i installed AVAST antivirus.

So what i did was uninstall AVAST and restart my computer and do a clean install of 185.85.

After that i have had no problems at all with this driver and everything works fine.

I use no ANTIVIRUS now as i am not the 9 year old kid who used to damage my fathers OS all the time. I just run Maleware Bytes' every month or so and everything is fine.

kk will do. I would have never guessed that AVAST will cause EVERY SINGLE DRIVER I TRIED after installing it to crash in any game.

It was ridiculous. Ah well. I'll try AVG. Thanks

185.85 causes the refresh rate of my external to set to 25mhz at every restart. annoying.

ALSO: would not allow me to manage custom resolutions. keep getting an error.

Best driver yet for me and my G1s. It got rid of a bug on my video (sometimes the fps got instable, slowing down in cycles for no apparent reason). Plus, I got my best 3dmark 2006 score so far, 4500 marks.
