I know it's old, but the game is alive and kicking. I always wanted to try it and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it. Plus, I'm bored at work at 4 am edt on a Sunday.

Please speak from experience only on this one. I'm looking for details such as the amount time it would take to level up on the low and high end content. How much of the game can be done solo or with a small group. I also would like to know, is it worth buying and subbing to play ~10 hours a week.

I am open to suggestions regarding other favorite MMOs. I've already played WoW, AC, DDO, EQ, EQ2, COH and Darkfall.

    Thanks everyone. :D

I haven't played it but I have a couple of friends that still today game on it. First of all is that after the low levels (maybe above level 5) you have to work in group, solo is definitely impossible.

That's not good to hear. I hate looking for groups when I don't have a lot of time to spend playing. I have, maybe, two days during the week that I can play for more than an hour or so...

No release date on 14 yet and that's supposedly more geared toward the casual gamer.

I really enjoyed FF11 when I played it, it is not a casual game though.
I played maybe a few hours more a week than you, but it was 5-6 hours at a time sat-sunday. If you can make some good friends in it, and find a group of people to party with, it is the single best MMO in my opinion. However as stated earlier, it is NOT possible to solo this game. NOT. POSSIBLE =(
Worst come to worst however, it is only $20? $25 bucks at gamestop for FF11 and all the expansion packs, there are worse deals out there.

I just started playing it again. I'm not sure how long it would take you to level up to the max, which they are about to increase. You could get to level 10 within about 3 hours or so by yourself. From there you need to party to level up at a decent rate. It's possible to solo stuff after level 10 with the Fields of Valor system giving you a bit of a boost, but you would get maybe 1/10th of the experience points per hour you would get from partying. You can get to level 20 in the first week.

You will enjoy yourself. I suggest getting ahold of one of the 30-day trial discs. I remember seeing them at gamestop for $1.99 You are welcome to play on my server if you choose to play. I will show you the ropes and I am about to lead a group of friends through the storylines in the game, which are the main attraction. I'd like to sort of "complete" the game by the time 14 comes out so I can give that a try.

I really enjoyed my time playing FF11 few years back. The pt part really sucks during 10-30 but as you enter 37 above, you'll have a lot of fun even it's just a lvl pt. Story part is rather unfortunate as I haven't finish sea and the later expansions due to taking part as a HNM ls member, yea items & armors can be really time consuming. Never the less, it's a good game which focus teamwork and skills :).
