It was an awesome game, but then again, so was most of the early FF series. 1-6 were by far the best but they're so awesome I cant decide which one was the greatest :)

Depends on what you're into ;) I'm really enjoying XII now. But I'm a sucker for good graphics with a story rivaling that of the older ones. I've played through many of the older ones, and they have some of the best stories of the whole series.

I also have to say I really, really like the combat system of XII. It's completely different than the older ones, but the same, and 100x better. You should give it a shot if you can.

FF2 had a great story, and the best combat system of FF.

What you do determines how you level up. If you are attacked and get low on energy, your hp goes up. If you use magic, mp goes up. It's most excellent.

BTW, we aren't talking FF4, we are talking about the actual FF2, found only in *sough* online, and Dawn of Souls.

Im super exited for FF3 on the DS. Almost the exact same as the old one, yet with 3d graphics! WOOOO!!!! Im currently in the process of playing ff4, and i love the story line, but the fact that theres not much customization is a pain.

2 the best? No way...4 was the best....followed closely by 7. 5 was good too, but I have to play the newly released (real) 3 before I decide which one is better.

What are you all smoking? FFIII for the SNES was by far the bestest greatest most awesome game ever made in the history of mankind (and several families of closely related apes).

P.S. If one of you by chance mentioned it already but using that "other" numbering standard, then that's fine too.

Couldn't agree more. My absolute favorite game of all time. Perfect in nearly every sense, and I still play it every so often. Bow down to FF6 (or 3, whatever)

Anyone else own Final Fantasy XII? I'm about 8 hours into it and loving every second. What about you?

Nope I abandoned Square the moment they abandoned Nintendo. I then abandoned Nintendo when they abandoned common sense with the N64. Besides, I doubt any other FF game will give me that "WOW" feeling the first time I performed an aura-bolt with Sabin on the D-pad. HAHA haven't played or heard about that game in 8 years and I STILL remember it :D

I haven't played any of the ones after 9, though I keep meaning to get into FF Online. I liked the whole cyberpunk thing of 7..liked the story of 2, the flexibility of 5. Not only did I NOT like 3, I HATED it....you shouldn't have to know how to do Street Fighter 2 moves on the control pad to progress in the game.

Final Fantasy 7 is the only game I've ever played that has got me to sit down for more than 100 hours. I just keep coming back from more, and hopefully Sony make it available for PSP soon :D.

BTW - Crisis Core looks amazing.

It was around then, maybe a year or so afterwards, that AOL exploded onto the scene (and exploded, leaving thousands of subscribers listening to busy signals on their modems) and I remember having looked it up on some site and trying it out and finding the Bum Rush slightly more difficult to do as a result...

I'm at 40 hours or so. Pitabread is also playing it, mentioned in another thread.

The game is a slice of awesome with a side order of excellent. Having a blast playing it. Alot to be pleased with, very very little to be disappointed in.

Dude, 40 hours? 40 freakin' hours? It just came out 2 weeks ago! I won't clock 40 hours for at least a month and a half.

Anyway, you're right about how awesome the game is. Vaan reminds me too much of Tidus from FFX, who annoyed the hell out of me. And also Fran the dominatrix rabbit, WTF? Other than that, very great game.

I've gotta go with the original Final Fantasy for NES. I spent a summer playing that game with my buddies, each of us taking on a character and deciding what to do with our turn. Those were good times.

After playing the original, skipping to the later parts of the series everything seemed too techno. It lost its mystique, and became just another anime clone game.

I've only finished FF4. Oddly enough, I've never finished another Final Fantasy. I've only really clocked significant time in 1, 4, 6, and 7. It hadn't occured to me that I might want to play 2 or 3; I might have to take a look at them now.

I clock maybe an hour or two a night, more on the weekend. It's not that bad, really. I don't have a problem, I can quit anytime I want! ;)

Well.. let's talk about which FF sux.. The ones i played is 7,8,9,10,10-2.. 8 i found it was the most disappointing of all, maybe the story of the 7 is so great that 8 failed terribly. And after that, no more FF on PCs. 9 was ok ok, but its story doesnt connect, like how the heck in the end u fought a boss that u never knew the name. 10, 10-2... I hate the level up system. It's like everyone could be everything. I somehow like the 7, which only cloud could perform the omnislash and no others. But 10 and 10-2 are like, the same? Which makes me hate the lvl up system in 12 oso, but i do find it's story interesting. Might be considering it if i have time.

Well, in 12 anyone CAN be anything, but that's a silly way to play it. Everyone will be mediocre at their thing if you do it that way. You just pick a corner of the license board and head towards it ;)

Ahahah I remember that too, except Edgar would always do the slicing animation with the chainsaw (the one hit kill version) instead of the crazy spinning animation against bosses and such at the worst times, especially after I find out that they have maybe 5% of their health left.

If you're talking OmniSlash type special moves, the Quickenings in XII are all different per character; in that sense, you could say it's "unique" per character. Once an Esper is assigned to a character, only that character can use it as well.

But like Pitabred says, with 12 there's the option for you to make anyone anything, it's just a matter of focusing your character to the role you want him/her to play. There are alot of license squares that you'd probably want everyone to have (because having +500 hit points is a big deal to any character, whether it be mage or tank), but that doesn't mean you have to make everyone the same.

The equipment you use makes a big difference in these "class roles" as well. The mystic armors give a nice boost to magic strength, so it's definitely something you'd want your mage-types to wear, even if heavy armor is available. Same goes for weapons as well, plus you can factor in things like long-range weapons for flying monsters or to keep your character out of melee range.

....though I must admit, I've set almost all my guys down a basic path for the augmentation licenses; things like faster casting and attacks, hit points, physical and magic power up, were all things I figured I'd want on every character, though I am being more selective with learning magics and weapon types.....

FF2 and FF3 are still the only ones I never bothered to beat...maybe one day I'll play them through. (I played a little of 3 and found it really well-made for a NES game. Shame I don't have a DS.)

Hehe, yeah I remember when FFIII came out for SNES (FF6). Great times indeed... I was blown away by the game, I can't say that about a lot of games these days. For the record, my absolute favorite in the series is FFIV. It just has everything I could ask for in an RPG, and a lot has to do with nostalgia of course, as I know it's not anywhere near perfect.

I will probably rent FF12, along with Kingdom Hearts 2, this winter vacation. I just can't justify buying them so I'll rent them, finish them, and return them.. neither to me look worthy of $50.

You really should consider buying FFXII. Renting for long enough to finish it would cost you more than it'd be to buy it (assuming you feel the need to eat, sleep and go outside or hang out with real people periodically). KH2 will be a faster game to get through, so that's a tougher call. I own them both though, because they're both just fun games.

Quoted for truth. FFIII set the standard for a cool fantasy/sci-fi style world. And really, who actually likes the summons in FFVII? Sure, they were cool the first time. But after you've read war and peace 3 or 4 times just to get through Bahmut or Knights of the Round (or whatever it was called) you start getting bored. Too many cut scenes for the new FF games, not enough actual game to play.

Anyone else think it would be wicked cool if Square remade FFIII for the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360? I know most people are yelling for a FFVII remake, but who needs that s***?
Can you imagine FFIII with today's graphics and sound? Drooooooool...
