I just want to start off by saying I do not own a PS3.. I would however for a Final Fantasy VII remake. So I'm curious has anyone heard any news on this dream coming true to us FFVII fans out there?? How would you feel about a remake?

Ugh, this has been discussed on so many of the several boards I lurk...
My personal stance on it in a nut shell.
I'd buy it, but I would much rather see a Xenogears remake then anything else. Possibly Chrono Trigger after, then FFVII. -
I'd buy a Chrono Trigger remake with cinematics and better graphics.

CT remade in ds already so i don think newer version will come out in few years.

With CT & XenoGears being fully playable on an emulator FF7 would have priority for me as the PC version just sucks and wont even run right on newer OS's and it doesnt quite emulate properly when using the PS version, atleast not without a lot of work.

It's a port, not remake. Why they keep doing it and not actually spending for an overhaul no ones knows...they could make an absolute killing if they did.
Or they could leave fan projects alone and not go ahole on them -
Or a sequel... I loved the prequel (Crisis Core).

All because of that bloomin tech demo...
To answer your question - yes it is possible though Square-Enix have stated they are not going to do it. Good for them I say! While it would be a great success commercially I don't think it would quite have the impact the original did, similar to the MGS remake.
I think it would largely take away from the unique status of the original. Take van Sants unneeded and largely vulgar remake of Psycho - in any format a remake is a really hard thing to do well - even for professionals. Most horror remakes are absolutely rubbish, will largely be forgotten in ten years and looked back on as a wasted, financial fad. We don't need this dire fashion in gaming too! Point is, if it ain't broke - don't fix it!
While very few games age well, I don't think it's a good enough reason to remake an oldie just because, 'nowadays teh graphix sux'. All that matters is that for back in the day - they were revolutionary! I'm not sure Square can quite do that today... None of their out output (while still brilliant and superior to compared to alot of other traditional RPG's still) rarely has been as radical since.
It's bad enough that they've tainted the brilliance of the original with a bad movie sequel and cheap shooter spin-offs - way to ruin the ambiguity of the original games ending by the way - a master-stroke in itself that didn't need additions. I liked not knowing whether humanity had survived or not.
If anything - They would be better off re-releasing it for whole new generation who never knew/or had the chance to play it. Give it another ten-twenty years or so. Release it on the 77th anniversary if you want to be really true to its' spirit. -
Ive been playing 'the last remnant' and although once apon a time i would have loved to have seen a remake of FF7 these days id much rather see square work on new stuff...the combat in the last remnant is brilliant, unique and really enjoyable, id love to see some more new stuff being worked on rather that revisit days gone bye...

yeah, ff7 was a great game...but there are great games coming out every month. If there was the same game remade over all the time, it would get old.

I wouldn't mind if they made a remake of FFVII. It would bring back a lot of memories I have when I was a kid. But I still have to convince myself that the reality is that will never come true. Oh how I wish there was a FFVII remake.

Most likely it will be done. They have hinted about it and said there will be more FF7 games.
Not to mention they have already remaked practically all old Final Fantasy games and VII is next. Though original FF VII team is currently doing the Final Fantasy Versus XIII. -
I think Im going to start looking for another ATB game.
