i don't know much about nvidia drivers, but why are you using the factory driver? Its awfull.
-
This has nothing to do with Microsoft. Microsoft doesn't release graphics drivers.
-
It should be a driver released by Nvidia with an inf file for HP notebooks. By the way on laptopvideo2go you can find much newer drivers. The current is 169.09!

Who the heck leaves auto update on nowadays?

I have a compaq with those new 167.43 drivers and have to wait about 10 seconds between clicking on my user picture and windows coming back on after I open the laptop lid.
But, I've used some other drivers off that LaptopVideo2Go and I have had the blue screen on Vista problem. -
how come mine didn't update
-
Vista Windows Update also includes the WHQL drivers. 167.43 just is the last one certified for the Go 6100, being released last week by HP or something.
-
Sometimes Vista can suggest drivers via Windows update if you ask for it. Takes a while though, best is to check laptopvideo2go or the Nvidia site to keep track.
-
Usually there is no frequent updates with the integrated graphics chips. The last update from HP was a long time ago. I don't even think there is an update from HP on their site with these new drivers yet.
-
latest is 169.32 which I have and give me the best performance i've ever had.
-
I tried a couple off LV2G and they both BSODed me.
When updating drivers do you still need to unistall the previous driver, restart in safemode and install the new driver? -
-Uninstall old driver and restart.
-Install new driver and restart. -

I don't usually install (how about never) Microsoft drivers from Windows Update, unless they are a newer version for a NIC, LCD or whatever. It's not that I don't trust their drivers, it's just that I don't trust them being new and usually they aren't.
If you update your system with the latest drivers (even if they are modded) and you get some sort of an advice from Microsoft (through Problem Reports and Solutions) make sure you don't install those. I happen to have two drivers they want me to install, even though mine are newer and from the manufacturer (ATi and nVidia).
