I just found out that War Rock runs smoothly at high settings on my budget notebook (Acer 5102WLMi: Turion X2, ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 (equivalent to the Xpress 200M), 120GB, 1024MB). Amazingly efficient game engine IMO (see " WarRock: a free battlefield experience" for my in-depth review).
So if you're looking for a free online FPS or can't afford or even run BF2142, at least give this game a look. I found out that it was well worth the effort.

War Rock makes taking screenshots somewhat fun, as it adds a light-bloom effect whenever you press the PrtSc button. I had a lot of fun taking these, enjoy. And fellow gamers without dedicated graphics, have hope; this is a game that will look good even on integrated cards. Did I mention that its absolutely free?

Check out my first in-game screenshot (effects disabled):

Hmmm, which veichle should I pick (large map)?

I tried them all, and found out that I'm a terrible pilot. You can toggle cockpit views to first or third person.

    The blackhawk:

    The bomber plane:

Here's one of a tank (medium map):

I just added these screenshots taken at high settings with rain, lighting, water effects enabled. Funny thing is that the rain appears even inside buildings. Buggy? or maybe its just that this takes place in an alternate world; you never know. The rain drops on the screen are a nice touch IMO.
(Note: I don't recommend playing on these settings with a integrated card as gameplay will be affected; I just wanted to see how it looked.)

Purchasing items in the game is done using in-game currency called dinar; these can be earned during matches with bonuses when you are promoted. Notice the lease rate for an average sidearm. The most expensive weapons include a panzer and a sniper rifle which lease for 3900 dinar per 3 days.

Thanks for this post, I will make sure to check it out. Although I can run BF2 fine I don't want to spend the money to buy any new games. I'm looking for all the downloadable games I can get :)

there is the website. It actually looks like a neat game. I myself haven't played the BF series, though. Reviews say this game doesn't have nearly as steep of a learning curve as BF, especially with vehicles. I have read that controlling some of the aircrafts in BF is a pain in the ass.

As I said before I'd rather pay for BF2 then play Warrock for free, although it is a decent game. The graphics aren't overly great but by a free games standard they are excellent, and run on quite low end machines, a huge bonus point.

Still though. If my system wasn't good enough to run BF2 I'd prob stick with BF Vietnam or even 1942 Desert combat.

Still though, again, War Rock is a decent game.

    In response to Cabral:
Its gameplay is fast and furious, unlike the tactical gameplay of BF2. If you're Ok playing a more arcade-style version of BF, try it out.

Thanks for the compliment; I'm glad someone thinks it looked nice. (I don't think some people noticed that my notebook has integrated ATI graphics; so I'm just amazed at what it's capable of). And yes, it's absolutely free. So go on and download it at warrock.net.
    Cheers
