Although specs are not revealed yet, GTX 965M is most likely GM206 due to its big distance from GM204 GTX 970M. 7-8SMM aka 896-1028 cores is my guess. 896 cores with somewhat high clock or 1028 cores with lower clocks.

Knew it. Thank you, NVIDIA.
That 965M will be a nice addition to 13" and 14" notebooks. Little mobile powerhouses. -
so it scores the same as a stock 780M? interesting!
-
Should have very low TDP. Probably around 50-60W somewhere
@J.Dre: Are you waiting for this GPU? -
I am smelling Macbook Pro refresh with this GPU, good job Nvidia, as always! BTW Cloud, how do you always manage to break these news? Are you the leaking source, like always?
-
MSI is coming with new cheap gaming notebooks called GE62/72 that will use GTX 965M.
Information here: HOT: MSI GE62/GE72 vá»i GTX 970M, quạt tản nhiá»t kép, 3 SSDs, 4K output... - vozForums
One thing I think its important to mention:
GTX 965M will most likely be 128bit. GM206 is 192bit but I think they have removed 64bit of it for the mobile card.
Source: GTX 965M have 2GB VRAM -
We'll see... Most likely, yes.
It looks like the 965M performs almost as good as my 780M (stock), so it will be an even switch over to something more mobile. However, I
will need to find something with adequate cooling. I won't purchase a leaf blower. Maybe the AW 13 will get a 965M, if the AW 14 is gone for sure. That ULV, though...
I'm hoping it comes with a 3GB or 4GB variant later on. -
about 200-300 points that separate the two. not bad, could do with some overclocking to make it a bit closer.
-
That's 3DMark 11 though, which is 720p. I'd be more curious to see how 3DMark11 X or 3DMark Fire Strike performs.
-
a stock 780M is about 7700 on average with 3DMark 11 in P mode. the 965M is way better than a 770M but not enough to top the 780M. though i ain't surprised there's a big gap between the 770M and the 780M.
-
Man that is hot, I want it with 965M and with a good Broadwell CPU. Do they use soldered or socketed CPU?
-
True but they seem to scale similar with Extreme preset as well. Nvidia usually give them the bandwidth they need for 3DMark11.
But gaming wise, Im not so sure what will happens against 870M, 780M etc that have much better bandwidth. On one side you have 128bit vs 256bit cards, on the other side you have memory bandwidth optimizations with Maxwell that give it 33% better effective bandwidth because of compression algorithm.
Will be interesting to see
HQ= Soldered -
BTW, saw on amazon UK that there is a listing of the Asus G751JL with 965m

If you play CPU intensive games (multiplayer) just don't get the ULV, will be horrible. Wait until they release quad-core + Amplifier (that's what I am looking forward to), and it will happen down the road for sure.

Thanks for the info as always, hope it doesn´t take too long until launch, i guess at CES
-
Oh, most definitely. I won't purchase a laptop with a ULV processor, lol.

January 22nd 2014 is the latest buzz on the street regarding GM206/GTX960/965M
-
The heck.
GTX 965M is GM204 -
It makes sense, that 5 is suspicius
-
It makes zero sense to me.
P7200 in 3DMark means they have disabled a good deal of the chip. Why not just use GM206 and disable less and save silicon? -
Well if it is 128-bit it also makes sense to run with GM206 instead. Who knows, unless there's actual silicon out there with reports of GM204, it may still be GM206.
-
Don't be too surprised. After all, isn't Kepler GTX 860M a 128-bit GK104?
-
Maybe GM206 is not ready yet, or maybe they have even cancel it.
-
Desktop GTX 960 is supposed to already be done and shipping to resellers and it's based on GM206.
-
GTX 965M is 100% confirmed GM204.
Yep, that is right. But if a GM206 existed, why go with GM204? They couldnt use a GK106 to make a GTX 860M because it have more cores than GK106. GM206 have most likely enough to make a GTX 965M. Two different scenarios
Yeah thats the only explanation I can think off. But like HTWingNut explains, GTX 960 is suppose to be GM206 (not confirmed) -
Another leak showing GTX 960M too

Rebrands, i hate that, now we know why it has the "5" on the model number, they are just going to make a 860m=960m and 850m=950m, same with 840m=940mCloudfire likes this.
-
Correct, that GM200 was also confirmed.
GTX Titan 2 coming
(not that it matters to us though)
That GTX 960M is looking like a higher clocked GTX 860M based on its tiny advantage over GTX 860M dont you think?
EDIT: beaten by marcos. Yup, 2 rebrands most likely coming. We`re not free from GM107 just yet
-
Lack of mature GM206 production. Desktop GPUs always get first dibs. Same reason 670MX was GK104 even though GK106 (660) was already out, but 770M was GK106.
Also, the bolded is pure speculation. You don't know that for a fact.sasuke256 likes this. -
GTX 980M
P12700
GTX 965M
P7200
7200/12700 = 0.57
1536 cores * 0.57 = 870 cores
So 896 cores (7SMM) with high clocks or 1024 cores (8SMM) with lower clocks.
A full GM204 is 2048 cores. Meaning they are using less than 50% or 50% of the GPU die.
Must be nice sitting with the 965M knowing you actually have 2x as many cores than what you are allowed to use
-
-
More like a Quadro M6000 running GTX Titan 2 vbios probably.
12GB for M6000 and 6GB for Titan 2 is my guess. The card will undoubtly be aimed for 4K so it needs a good deal of VRAM -
Not necessarily. This may be operations / yield / costs thing.
Nvidia produces many GM204 chips. Some of them will inevitable end up defected during the manufacturing process. If all Nvidia could do was to sell full chips, no defect allowed at all, they would be throwing out tons of otherwise good silicon.
But if they can selectively disable parts of chip that have defects in them, they can still sell the chip, just for a lower price as a different class GPU.
With GTX 980, 970, 980M, 970M and now apparently also 965M using the same GM204 chip, they should have covered quite a large part of silicon that can still have defects but will produce viable GPU anyways.
Sounds actually wiser than having multiple different chip designs that each would have to be defect-less for viable GPU.
Also it likely decreases their R & D and drivers costs across products range. It's easier to have the same design everywhere, just with different numbers of cores and clocks. -
Nice find. I was also afraid that the 960m is a rebrand
Not worthy. Only the 965m is good. I'm assuming 960 shader cores based on previous amount of cores and probably 192 Bit. We will see...

GTX 960M = GTX 860M (rebrand) but with higher clocks. Both 128bit
GTX 965M is not a rebrand but a brand new GPU like you say. Could be both 128bit and 256bit, but most likely 128bit because it looks like it will have fewer cores than 970M which is 192bit. Unless Nvidia start giving people what they want/should have...
GTX950M = GTX 850M with higher clocks
GT 940M = GT 840M -

A big die with just 50% of them working lol -
Alienware 18 confirmed dead. Rest in peace, RIP beast
Oh well, MSI is here to continue where Dell gave up.
Nice to see AW15 returns though -
I don't get one thing, if AW puts another ULV inside a 15" laptop (that i5 is really fishy there...), I am pulling my hair on this... DONT!
-
And two more notebooks with GTX 965M - Eurocom P5 Pro and Eurocom P7 Pro:
Eurocom P5 Pro Model
Eurocom P7 Pro Model
I think these are those new Clevo "Batman" P750 / P770 models (15 and 17 inch versions), with desktop CPUs and MXM GPUs. Hence they did just add GTX 965M MXM option (this time with 4 GB VRAM).
Interesting info about TDP coming from Eurocom notebook configurator:
- GTX 965M, 4 GB VRAM, 75 watt TDP
- GTX 970M, 6 GB VRAM, 81 watt TDP
- GTX 980M, 8 GB VRAM, 100 watt TDP
-
And more info about desktop GTX 960 (apparently it should launch a bit earlier than expected):
- GM206 chip
- 128-bit memory bus
- 2GB GDDR5 (later on 4 GB)
- 1,178 MHz base clock
- 7,010 MHz memory clock
- NDA lifts on January 15th, 2015

Wait... 15" Alienware is back? Cool. I didn't dig this 13"/14" smallscreen trend anyway...
-
And Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M is out:
- GM204 chip
- 28 nm
- 1,024 shader cores
- 128-bit memory bus
- up to 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM
- 924 MHz core clock
- 1,250 MHz memory clock
3dmark firestrike graphics: 5,394
3dmark 11 GPU: 7,136
3dmark vantage GPU: 22,456
Gaming performance wise GTX 965M seems to be trading blows with GTX 870M, some games are faster on one, some on the other one.
