Probably because he hates the concept of needing an application to launch all his games.
-
I sorta agree with him. All I want to do to start a game is double click an icon and even that is tiring. *sigh* When will computers be able to read our minds?
-Taylor -
Hence STEAM FTW!
Anyway I can't wait for bioshock! I dont know if I want to risk buying it before I try a demo tho, I don't know if my notebook will handle it all that well. -
What's your vid card?
Btw: I only install a game if I have two 16oz Red Bull's with me. And then I have to take a nap before I double the click the icon.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
What is steam literally? I know you need for it certain games but what else does it do besides launch the game?
-

I'd be scared to overclock mine as well. I might overclock my X200M though! I'm sure I can get at least 10BILLION Frames on it, playing Bioshock.
My setup is similar to yours then, just a little lower in some things. But I'm still considering getting it for PC... though I also have 360 so I'm debating. I wouldn't worry about it though.
-Taylor -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Its not that hard or dangerous to overclock. Since you are new to it just ask other what settings are ok for your card. Its kinda hard to fry your gpu nowadays but regardless its not that hard but the problem is getting the best driver for your circumstance that is both stable and allows you to overclock.

I personally think people are being too hard on DX10 patched games, and Steam. The only problem with Steam is that if Valve goes out of business at some point, and you haven't made physical back ups, you're screwed unless they have a card up their sleeve.
Lost Planet aside, most DX10 patched games work fine. Sure you lose 10 FPS, but I think that's more to early patching problems and Vista then DX10 itself. Take Company of Heroes for example, their recent patch, though tiny, actually increased DX10 performance.
And oh yeah, Bioshock looks like it will be awesome. Should be quite fun if it's anything like System Shock 2.... -
One question on the 8700m, I thought the bad reputation is due to the 128bit Interface. Because that's already slowing down the performance.
So with DX10 becoming more optimized it won't matter for the 8700m due to 128bit Interface stoping it from transferring more data? -
-
Bioshock is not the first DX10 game you can get your hands on. Isn't World in Conflict a full DX10 game as well? The open multiplayer beta has been available for a while, and it runs much smoother in DX9 on an 8800GTS.

Prove it! -
Lol, he's telling the truth. I heard it on Attack of the Show.
-Taylor -
So there will be a price drop this week? yet to happen tho?
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso

Forget about DX10, The unit information on Terrans of Starcrat 2 is released. There is the video on it on Gamespot, Starcraft 2 video 3 or something.. I m quite impressed that Terrans are transformers, robot in disguise.
-
Terran Smerran. TOSS FTW!
Btw: A link would've made it easy. Now I have to go and find it.

Here, luckily it is still in the history of firefox.
BTWm i hate the guy who commented on it, he is sooooo monotoned -
Thanks
! I'll watch it right after I watch the Rage trailer lol. I got sidetracked while looking for it.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
-
I can't wait to play that game! Terran could possibly be my new favorite race, but that all depends on what they're doing with the zerg of course
. I watched a video on the Toss units and I wasn't too thrilled.
-
I remember huge Starcraft battles in My programming Class.
I have fond memories of a massive amount of hydras appearing in someones base from nowhere. Ahh the days..... Lets hop Starcraft 2 can run on 32 megabytes of vram and direct x 7 cards so i can own my teachers. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Whats the estimated release date? Its in 2008 right?
-
10/1/08 I believe is what I read on ebgames.com. MY ultimate source for game release dates lol.
-Taylor -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Holy crap more than a year from now? Better blow our minds since we waited for so long and now once they announce it, its still a long way away.
-
Lol I can't complain I don't even have my computer yet. I wonder if it'll play on X200M? lol On Max Settings you think?
-Taylor -
You could have played it at BLizCon if your a moron who will actually spend $400 just to test a game..
Wooo! can't wait another .... two and a half weeks for BioShock!
I think Crysis or UT3 will really be the DX10 showcases though, I heard that Bioshock was being created under DX9, Idk, and Idc, I just want to play it on my 8800 -
Note that the whole point of DX10 is efficiency...
Needing LESS brute-force power to make more beautifully rendered games.
DX9 can do almost everything DX10 can...
DX10 is just supposed to do it faster with less hardware oomph.
Note that DX10 drivers currently are not very mature and Vista isn't either.
I hate to break it to you, but even with my optimism for DX10, more than likely DX10 still has too many things crippling it to outrun DX9 yet.
DX10 will have its day... and I sincerely hope we see a fragment of it this month... but I am doubtful. -
I do agree with you on that. I like that DX10 will take power from RAM if your GPU isn't strong enough. I can definitly see the potential that it holds. I believe it will take a while for us to see it done effectively though. I don't know anything about DX9 either. I've only gotten up to DX8 lol. WooT ME!
-Taylor -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Lol dx8. Well once you get your inspiron you will be in the forefront of the technological advance! How much ram you putting into it?
-
I think lost planet direct x 10 is cool... Can my laptop (2 ghz, 2 gb ram, 256 mb vga) play this bioshock?
-
What graphics card do you have?
-
ForeRunner - It comes with a default 2GB Dual Channel 667 Ram. I didn't feel like paying 850$ extra for 4GB lol.
-Taylor -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
What gpu and cpu specifically?
LOL $850 dollars for 4 gbs of ram. Dell makes me laugh my ass off. with 850 dollars you could buy like 7 sticka of 2gb ram, and have 14 gigs of ram in stock with some money left over too. The new inspirons are pretty good though. -
-
I know if I ever decide I need more RAM I'll just order it on newegg. I think I found a set for 250$ ... compare 850 to 250. That's a 600$ difference!
-Taylor -
You can get a single 2gb stick for 150$ or so. Maybe better or worse now though I guess.
Im not that excited for Starcraft 2 except to see what goes on with the story. I'm waiting for Mass Effect, I just wish it was a PC game, and hopefully it will be. Most of Bioware's games from consoles end up on PC eventually though... -
Mass Effect I'll be getting on 360
. I'm just hoping they'll release SC2 and it won't end up being like SC: Ghost. Did they ever even release that game or just give up on it?
-Taylor -
It was never released, by Blizzard has been quoted as saying the idea isn't dead.
-
I do wonder all that DX10 are only significant on FPS... -
man, the only nextgen game that i am SERIOUSLY anxious for is Call of DUTY 4.....................crysis has too much hype cough*R600*cough, and though i am wating for it....COD4 FOR THE WORLD!!!
