Tomorrow is black friday, so I'm looking at buying an ATI X700 graphics card at best buy. If I wanted to play a lot of the new games on the market would this be a good card to buy? Would this run Battlefield 2, F.E.A.R., Halo 2, etc.? My current system has 512 mb of ram, would I need to update this as well? How would this new card run if I bought an extra gig of ram? Are there any other factors that are important for gaming that I need to look at?

FEAR runs fine on my x700 128MB. I managed to overclock it for 25-30% too. Scores around 2900 in 3dmark05. RAM - more is better.

    Happy gaming,

Yeah, you won't have any problem running newer games with an X700. I run FEAR at "Maximum" settings at 800x600, BattleField 2 at 1400x1050, max., and BattleFront 2 at max. at 1280x768.

Halo 2 is not avaliable for PC.

    Oops, I meant Half-Life 2.

Does anyone have any idea of how it would run Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion?

Would my current 512 mb of RAM be good enough to run most of these games?

The X700 will run any game out there right now. I have never played Elder Scrolls, so I can't tell you exactly how well it will run. But, if the X700 can run FEAR, which it does quite well, it can run anything else.

The answer to your RAM question is yes; but you'll definitely run out of memory, I recommend at least 1GB for games. You'll need it, especially for FEAR.

Yea, the x700 will play everything at very good (if not MAX) settings. As for RAM, yes, you'll need the upgrade. 512mb is just minimum nowadays. How fast is your processor?
