I've tried googling it, but it's hard to figure out whether this can be done safely or not.

    Just some background info:
    Both are Clevo laptops
    One is a P770ZM G-sync 970m, one is a P750ZM non gsync 980m

Am I able to take the 980m, flash a gsync prema vbios, and put it in the P770ZM and it work fine?
Will I be able to take the 970m from the 770, flash a non gsync prema vbios, and use it in the 750?

I'm hoping @Prema or anyone else who has experience can shed some light, hopefully just make this post show up on google for others who have the same question.

Unless the card was G-Sync version it wont work, from what i have learnt, there is a hardware difference. Flashing a g-sync vBIOS will brick it.

Hardware difference? I don't see any g-sync module or additional hardware on the 980M Gsync pcb.

This question was asked over at TI forums quite a bit, and prema did say that cross flashing isnt allowed. Even @Meaker@Sager mentioned the same in a thread over here.

We are talking small resistor layout hardware differences, just enough for Nvidia to identify one card from another,

Flash P770ZM BIOS to your P770ZM-G to use the GTX980 in it without g-sync.
Flash P750ZM with P750ZM-G BIOS to use the 970M-G in it (if g-sync works here depends on the screen model).
Don't touch the vBIOS, the ZM BIOS will detect a cross-flashed card and disable all screen output.

Oh so based on the actual bios, but don't touch vbios.

If I wanted to use the 980m from a nongsync, do i flash the prema vbios for the non-gsync? If I wanted prema vbios on it

Yep, you would naturally have to use the vBIOS matching the card.

So, how come they made a -G specific 980m? If it's all dictated by the system bios

    Figures

So putting the 970m-G in a P750ZM non-g is ok? Just don't expect Gsync (I know the screen does not support it), but will run as a normal card?

It will probably black-out unless you flash the ZM-G system BIOS first.

Ah ok, but if all is well, then hopefully should run like normal, just no g-sync since the driver will detect the display is not gsync compatible, yeah?

Danyune, did you ever try what you were talking about in your original post? Or did you get any further answers on this? I currently have a p750dm-g with a g-sync 970m and would like to update to a 980m, but would rather not pay the premium for the g-sync version.
