Too little too late if you read the comments section.
Why have they been so quite surrounding all of this? Crazy.
Anyway, thanks for the post and +rep when I'm on the laptop.
Might be worth putting this in the GPU section for all the guys.

Does anyone know the technical details on how the M17xR4 is able to get around this issue and forcing use of the discrete video graphics card? Is it using a mux? Or is the M17xR4 also muxless?

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
"There are no "quick fix" solutions for complex problems. As for the Alienware, the interesting thing is that it has hardware muxes so you can turn off the integrated graphics (so the display outputs get routed directly to the dGPU). Why would they do that when they have Enduro? Probably because they don't like the way Enduro works right now but they wanted to give users the option of getting better battery life. How's that for confidence? " -
R2 doesn't have this problem

Seen some people with overheating or BSOD issues. Feel quite bad. Mine is down utilization though. Definitely looking forward to the new update. But whether this update with live up to this hype or not, we will see.

Its about damn time. Its amazing that AMD can have a GARBAGE product out for months. I feel bad for all the Clevo 7970m owners who haven't experienced the actual 7970m power yet because of AMD's lack of desire to fix their problems.

Here's an update. Apparently things are getting better, but he's using prerelease drivers that aren't generally available. I don't mind that AMD is behind nVidia in terms of driver sophistication, as long as they improve consistently with frequent releases. I'm thinking, "Better late than never" as opposed to, "Too little too late." My bigger concern would be if they don't see any need to improve, and just leave everyone hanging. ... and they still might do that.
Anyway, linky: AnandTech - Testing AMD
