Buy it! It's seriously awesome! And for 5 you can't go wrong (6,50 if you also buy the DLC). The shooting is old skool and lots 'o fun (ID Software)! Graphics are good (although I suggest you look up some tweak guides to make the game look even better) and driving is realy fun (like, realy, realy fun). If you like Mad Max, Fallout or anything else post apocalyptic related, buy this. You'll love it!
I also recommend buying the DLC with it, since it unlocks more missions, weapons, locations, and, ULTRA NIGHTMARE difficulty (which is a pain in the ***, but in a good way).

Thanks for the suggestion 1nstance. I was wondering, how do you like the game? I've contemplated purchasing this in the past but the reviews suggest that the PC version is not very good. Your thoughts?
-
No problem maverick . I am realy enjoying it so far. The gunplay is not for everyone though, it's kinda like Doom, Quake and UT gunplay. So, you either gonna love it, or hate it (I am loving it). The PC version is good if you ask me. Have encountered 0 bugs so far. The game had lots of problems at launch, hence the bad reviews of the PC version. But now it's all good. Good performance too. Everything on ultra runs like a charm. I think your 7970M will have no problem running this game.

As will I. I quite enjoyed Doom 3. Can't wait for Doom 4. Hopefully they don't screw up any more with that fourth, eh?
That's good to hear. Either ways, I don't mind dropping my settings and even my resolution. In a way, I'm lucky that I am not too bothered by lower frame rates, resolutions or settings. Or you could say being a grad student, we beggars cannot be choosers
.
Thanks again... -
Let's hope for the best! Doom 3 BFG Edition was a blast from the past though. Enjoyed that one a lot!
Than I am happy to inform you that you don't have to drop any settings.
No problem! -
If you have an SSD you will definitely avoid many of the complaints about texture loading.
One of the things I disliked about the bfg edition was the weapon sound effects were rather anemic. I mean it's Doom, gimme high impact weapon sounds. -
Didn't care for Rage.

It was one of the more beautifully designed games I've played. The art direction and the environments were amazingly detailed, particularly if you are into post-apocalyptic settings. I was impressed with how fast the idTech engine runs at 1080p on my laptop with 5830m. It took a while to fiddle with the settings to find the best visuals with good frame rate, but in the end it ran much faster than games with lower quality visuals.
One thing I've been hoping to see (or attempt myself with the steam workshop mod tools), is a mod that fleshes out the environments with more rewards for exploration and more quests. With the crafting and progression it has some RPG elements, but it could incorporate a lot more interesting quests and loot rewards for exploring all the remote parts of the levels. It is a huge open world, but if you drive around randomly and find some place to explore, often either you can't enter the building, or you can enter it, but there are no enemies inside yet.
The only other drawbacks I found were that there are a lot of car racing mini-games, and the combat should have been more challenging on the highest setting. I believe since the last time I played it, there was a patch adding a new highest difficulty setting.
Here are a few screens from gameplay on my laptop:

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Never considered buying this game, until I saw a TotalBiscuit's review on Youtube few months ago.
Bought it as soon as I saw it go on sale on Friday
.
Unfortunately won't be able to play it until the next month or even two... -
It runs without issues on my 7200RPM HDD.
I agree with ya on this one.
You should
.
You have alot of wingsticks! Haha!
Oh, and when you buy the DLC you get the option to choose te Ultra Nightmare difficulty. Trust me, this one is realy challenging at times.
That's a shame. Didn't know TB uploaded a vid about this game though. Gonna check it out. -
Bought this game too, but I still have Shadow Warrior to complete first, and that wont happen until next week when I'm finally off school
-
You guys finish next week? Man I wish I went where you do. Or do you mean off school for Thanksgiving?
-
RAGE is a very underrated game. It also looks gorgeous considering how high the frame rate is.
-
Agreed. Although right now 8K+ people are playing it on Steam (I gues the majority is playing the free version though).
-
Oh yeah. RAGE hasn't even been on that list in the last 1.5 years. After release it died pretty quickly in terms of popularity compared to its peers, e.g. Skyrim, BF3, and MW3. The numerous technical issues at launch didn't exactly help either. But it's still a fun singleplayer experience and id Tech 5 is certainly some interesting technology.

Lol Thanksgiving in Canada happened way back in October, I mean I'm off for winter break until the middle of January
For anyone considering to buy RAGE on Steam right now...
