The Samsung X460 is very impressive, but I'm wondering if it's video card will be able to play the latest DirectX 10 games?

If not....I was going for the Dell M1530, but I'm in Korea and their version doesn't have the LED monitor so I'm going in a different direction. I have access to all the Asian brands, like Samsung, LG, Asus, etc.. What is the best gaming laptop from the Asian companies?

No, the 9200 won't be able to play the latest DX10 games at good fps... The x460 is not meant for gaming, hence the 9200... If you want a gaming machine take a look at the gaming series from Asus... For example, the G70 or G50 series...

I would second ASUS. Their bang for the buck at the moment is impressive.

The guy at the Samsung store said the X460 (with the 9200 gs) would be able to play all the latest games, like Spore and StarCraft 2 (when it comes out).

Is that a downright lie or do you think it'll still be able to play those games decently?

The only other option seems to be the R560 which has a 9600 GT card, but he said that card isn't that much better than the 9200....

edit: by the way, I went to the Asus stores here and they don't carry the G50 or G70 series here in Korea :(

Salesperson doesn't know what he's talking about, get the 9600GT if you can afford it and you won't regret your purchase. The 9600GT is a very good mid-range gaming GPU which completely outclasses the 9200GS.

he probably lied about that or didnt know what he was talking about. Just try get a laptop with a Geforce 9600 or better, don't have to be Asus. I have no idea what they got in Korea, but here in Thailand they got mostly everything but not the super hardcore gaming laptops.

    Edit: Harleyquin07 beat med 1-0

the only thing about the R560 that's better (i believe) is the graphics card. the X460 has the LED screen, its very lightweight, etc.

so..is the video card that much better to just get the R560 over the X460?

Yes, the difference is really big, like 3-1 (exagerated?)... If you want a laptop being capable of gaming at good frames, then you need to do some sacrifices in other aspects, like weight...

Now, maybe the salesman wasn't lying in 1 thing, the 9200 will be able to handle spore (not sure abt starcraft2), but again, spore isn't a demanding game... But don't expect to be playing FarCry2, DeadSpace, Crysis, Grid, etc etc etc at good framerates even on low quality...

yea u can pull off new games with that but on the lowest settings with a low resolution, ud be much better off getting the one with the 9600, i have the 8600 DDR3 which is similar in performance and it plays new games very well, not highest settings all the time but well enough to look nice and play smoothly
