What are your current values for your 8600M GT set at? For the Core Bus I have it set to 720 Mhz and the Memory Bus is set at 810 Mhz. I ran the stability test for 10 minutes and everything checked out! I want to see how much higher I can go based on you guys.

You should see how much higher you can go not based on what others have done, but what your computer can handle. Some people use coolers, others live in warmer/cooler houses, a more humid area, their laptop sits in the sunlight of a window, etc. All those factors can cause one laptop to overclock higher than the same laptop in a different environment. I guess you could get a ballpark figure if you wanted.

Just increase your clocks 5-10MHz at a time until your system becomes unstable, then lower them 5-10MHz and you'll be fine.

When I do that though, it gets to the point where my entire screen gets jaggy and distorted. I guess I can lower it then and restart to get rid of them........Also why don't my overclocks save? I can close the program and come back in and they are still there, but when I restart and come back they are back to usual values. I am using an overclockable driver as well.

Is it advisable to use the tuning feature to let it find out automatically what it can do?

    Definitely NOT !
OCing is done step by step with trial and error.
As |Crash| pointed out, 5-10 Mhz at a time.

What are people views on OCing an IGP, has anyone done it and got a noticable improvement?
I've got a GeForce 7150m, and while playing games the nTune GPU temp monitor reads ~78*C, is it probably best to leave it at that?

What is the current best CPU overclocking utility for free? What is the standard right now to use?

yep. if it goes that high you should just leave it be.
However you can go up to 90C when gaming , should be ok. I just don`t think it`s worth it.

The 8600s will throttle itself down at a certain tempertaure which is configured in your bios. Each card/company has its own critical temp where it will clock itself down and won't let you clock it back up till restart. In my experience tis occurs when you clock the memory too high, while if you clock the core too high it simply artifacts.

So your fine until that card reacches its threshold. You gotta worry when you change your bios settings to increase those temps, though thats when the real fun begins. :)

I now have my card running as hard as it can without artifacting, and I have now arrived at a 5,194 3DMark06 score. Pretty darn good.

I finally got Rivatuner working. I went in and put everything the same except for the memory clock which now sits at 950 Mhz. I will run a 3DMark06 bench later tonight and see what sort of an improvement that gets me.
