    Force DirectX 7 Mode?

    Is this safe and why does it improve gaming (such as Call of Duty 2) so well??

    not 100% sure, but i think it takes away everything that wouldnt run in DX7, and elimates it...shadows/textures/lighting..etc...so the gpu doesnt have to struggle with all of that and it runs better (more fps)

    There's an idea. ;)

    Basically, as PB said - takes away all the special FX. You don't get the shadows, advanced lighting, or the reflective shading. Basically just makes it a 3D game with basic lighting.
