Anyone know how I can force the fans in my Alienware M9750 to run at all high on the GPU or adjust them? My Radeon 3870 keeps overheating because the GPU fan stays at only 30% at all times...

Also, I've heard I can cut one of the wires to force it to run 100%? Which one?

Have you tried HWiNFO32? I don't know if Mumak has given the M9750 support yet or not.

the reported 30% is a default in an ATI GPU bios with no dedicated fan ... your GPU shares the same fan with the CPU (whose temp controls the fan) if you undervolted your CPU maybe increase the voltages a bit so that the CPU heats up a bit more forcing the fans to kick in at higher RPM

Or you can use RW-everything program & go for the Embedded controller options & find the fan string ,in my laptop it is string 90 column 03 and change the value 04 -> 14 (maunal fan control) & the cell next to it in my case (90-04) to 00 (maximum fan speed)

you can try any of these + you may consider repasting or through cleaning of the vents

    Good luck

Actually, my GPU has a separate fan.. Theres one for one card solt, CPU and SLI chipset, and one for the FSB and card I'm using. HWinfo32 dosen't do it. The RW thing sounds promising, but I don't quite understand. Can you give me a link?

here is a link to the software RW - Read & Write

when you install it enter into the Embedded Controller tab or EC & print screen it and upload it & then we will see where the fans controlling cell
