Whenever i start recording with fraps, my fps drops drastically until the point where it gets unplayable.
My specs are in sig...is it possible my computer cant handle fraps? WTF!
-
All computers drop in framerate when Fraps is recording. That's just how it works...
-
But to the extent where it is unplayable? i dont think so...
-
I do think so. The 8400m GT just isn't powerful enough. I have seen very few people that can run Fraps with a good framerate while recording, and they were on very high-end hardware. There may be some tweaking I don't know about, but I messed with Fraps on my Sony and could never get it playable while recording.

I was running the devil may cry 4 benchmark earlier and with the half video size setting (the one that is fastest) I went from over 200fps to 30fps
and I have a quad core at 3.6ghz and 2 4850's
Some things just dont work well when recorded. -
For one, I believe the max framerate for Fraps is 30FPS, but if you are barely getting 30FPS, it's gonna cut that in half.
-
Yeah some games are just better for it currently. I was just checking things out in LotRO, WAR, EQII, and Vanguard this morning with fraps. When it is on I register around 90 fps in LotRO for example, but when I record it goes down to 28. On EQII I got 55 fps, and when I recorded I went down to 30. When I was playing Vanguard I was at 34 fps, and when I was recording I went down to 28 so it wasn't much of a drop off.

That makes sense, was wondering why it droped from 200 to 30 as I knew my quad core had enough power ot keep up. It is set to record at 30fps on mine. I just didnt think that it would actually cap you at 30fps to do it.
-
Yup, it caps the framerate. Kind of lame if you ask me...

Thats ok for most games, but since I was trying to record how well the DMC4 benchmark runs on my system and how it looks at max settings that would kind of nulify the point
-
I find that FRAPS does peg your framerate but also another thing that it does it that I find it makes huge files, so if you do want to squeeze out as many frames as you can into the file or for benchmarking reasons you will need a very fast harddrive

i'm really good with it.
