Okay, this is a continuation (and consolidation) of the games that were mentioned here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=171963

Basically, the author doesn't log on often enough to update the main list... So I've taken the liberty to create this thread (and I'll make sure it stays updated). I've also added a few games to the list which weren't present in the previous thread.

    Okay... *Breathes in* Here goes:

    FULL GAMES Section

Savage with SFE (Savage Full Enhancement!) (RTSS)
    http://www.newerth.com/

An RTSS game that supports up to 64 players online (it is online only, however). What's RTSS? Real Time Strategy Shooter. Basically, two players are the "Commander", and the units they create are essentially human controlled (the commander are in "RTS" mode while the soldiers are human controlled and are in the "shooter" mode). Thus, they can give the units orders and it would be in the best interest of the team to follow the orders given by the commander (unless he's a total idiot--in which case there's a boot option). I have no yet played this (I have it downloaded), so I can't vouch for its fun factor. But it looks like some good innovative fun :).

    -Multiplayer Only.
    -LAN supported.

    F.E.A.R. Combat (FPS)
    http://www.joinfear.com/

This is the online only portion of the game "First Encounter Assualt Recon". According to the official site, the free online version allows the use of custom created contents as well as Mods. I have tried neither, so I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the statement (don't except single player mods to work, obviously).

    -Multiplayer Only.
-LAN supported. (Thanks to Q8PHANTOM™ for confirmation)

    Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (FPS)
    http://www.gamershell.com/download_2354.shtml

A free online team-based shooter based on the wolfenstein universe. I've only played it briefly, and it seems like a good, albeit dated, game.

    -Multiplayer Only.
    -Unknown LAN support**.

    Ground Control (RTS)
    http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/groundcontrol/

A great classic in the RTS genre, bringing blazing fast gameplay plus tactical and strategy elements to a great blend... Think of this as the prequel to Company of Heroes--there are a few similarities which will be welcome to most RTS gamers.

This IS by the studio that has just released World in Conflict (as well as Ground Control 2).

    -No online support***.

    America's Army (FPS)
    http://www.americasarmy.com/downloads/

Basically, an interactive advertisement for the American Army--but don't let the propaganda fool you. It's supposed to be a solid game (I've only played it briefly in training mode, but I've heard good things about it).

    -Single player and Multiplayer supported.
    -Unknown LAN support**.

    Starsiege: TRIBES (FPS)
    http://www.gamershell.com/download_6159.shtml

Another classic much like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. If you're alergic to dated graphics. Stay away from this one. If you want high speed fast paced FPS action while staying alive, stay close to a health pack.

    -Multiplayer only.
    -LAN support***.

    FreeSpace 2 (Space Combat Sim)
    http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=4150

A great classic, and even I enjoy playing it even though the graphics are dated as compared to newer space combat sims such as Freelancer (No relation, I believe. Freespace is by Volition, Freelancer is by Digital Anvil). Worth a try if you enjoy space combat sims such as Freelancer.

    Flight Gear (Flight Sim)
    http://www.flightgear.org/

Ever wanted to fly your own jet liner? Well, welcome to Microsoft Flight Simulator! Oops, you don't want to pay any money? Get outta here!

Ever wanted to fly your own jet liner? (*But I don't want to pay a penny!*)
No problem. Welcome to Flight Gear!

-Unknown multiplayer support (But honestly... do you really want to play a flight sim with someone else half way across the world?)****

    GTA 2 (Sandbox Game)
    http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/

Classic GTA 2. It's GTA. Need anymore? There's also Wild Metal and GTA download in the above link.

    S.W.I.N.E. (RTS)
    http://www.gamershell.com/download_11942.shtml

An interesting RTS featuring a pig as its mascot... I'll let Gamespot do the explaining:
    http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/swine/index.html

-Has Internet and LAN Multiplayer support (Thanks Q8PHANTOM™!)

    The White Chamber (Adventure)
    http://www.studiotrophis.com/wc.php

Remember Kings Quests? Monkey Island? You do? Good. You don't? Get outta here!

This is a horror/mystery version of those click-and-move adventures. The graphics are all hand drawn and top notch. I haven't beaten the game, but the storyline seems solid from what I've played so far.

    5 Days a Stranger (Adventure)
    http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/5days/

Much like The White Chamber, this is also a click-and-move adventure game situated within a horror/mystery theme. The storyline seems very intriguing, so I'll post a quick quote:
    WarRock (FPS)
    http://warrock.net/

A free FPS that's a clone of both CS and Battlefield, offering gameplay style that suites different players. I used to play this game during the open beta and it was quite fun--albeit laggy at times. There are now premium items and features (such as extra maps), but the core game play is still free.

    -Multiplayer only.
    -No LAN support.

    CellFactor: Revolution (FPS/3rd Person Shooter)
    http://www.cellfactorrevolution.com/

From what I can see, this is a tech-demo/game for AGEIA's PhysX PPU. Don't bother playing it unless you have a XPS 1730 and a PhysX PPU...

EDIT: After reading the FAQ, you can still play 2 Levels without the PPU, the physics in those levels will simply be less "extreme". With the PPU, you get access to 3 additional levels.

-LAN Support (8 player with 16 AI bots).

    Urban Terror (FPS)
    www.urbanterror.net

A stand-alone Quake 3 Mod that utilizes "real" weapons, while still remaining fast and hectic--unlike CS. There are thousands of player online at once, and Bots are also "supported" (unofficially--PM HerrKaputt for details).

-Multiplayer Only (Online and Offline with Bots)
    -LAN supported.

    Trackmania Nations (Racing)
    http://www.trackmanianations.com/indexUk.php

    -Multiplayer supported.
    -Single player supported.
    -LAN supported.

Command and Conquer: Anniversary Edition (RTS)
    http://www.commandandconquer.com/intel/default.aspx?id=61#NewsMain

This is an official release of the original Command and Conquer game that start it all! Fully loaded with both the GDI and the NOD campaigns (which are on two different ISO's) and skirmish mode! I do believe online, or at least LAN support, is present. However, I have not tried it out so I don't know for sure. Be sure to check the installation notes before trying to install it on newer OS's!

    -Unknown online multiplayer support****.
-Single player campaign and offline Skirmish supported.

    Spring (RTS)
    http://spring.clan-sy.com/

"Spring" is a Total Annihilations 3D conversion that isn't a mod so you don't need the original TA game to play Spring (but for certain Mods, you need the original TA to play the Mod). It supports all sort of wacky multiplayer gameplay and the graphics are actually rather good. It's definitely worth checking out (if nothing but the screenshot page :p) if you're even remotely into RTS's.

    -Multiplayer supported.
-Single player skirmish supported. No official campaign at this time.

    *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-**-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

**Not too sure about LAN support, but I would assume LAN is supported. Please let me know if you know for sure whether or not LAN is supported.
***If memory serves, the notice is correct. However, correct me if I'm wrong.
****Please let me know if you know for sure if multiplayer/LAN is supported or not.

    FREE TO PLAY MMORPG Section

    Knight Online
    http://www.knightonlineworld.com/

*Never played it, so no comments*

    2Moons (M rated. Aged for 17+)
    http://2moons.acclaim.com/

A very good MMO with fast paced gameplay and PvP support. I've played this game and there's relatively few grinding (which is good) and lots of quests. The graphics aren't very top notch, however.

Silk Road Online (I didn't really want to post this game 'cause I didn't really like it, but fabarati prodded me to :p)
    http://www.silkroadonline.net/

A free MMO based on the historical Asian trade route known as the "Silk Road". Play as either a European or Chinese character with different classes to choose from.

    Plasma Pong
Official Site download is down until further notice due to trademark issues. Google for DL link if you wish

Ever wanted to know what hallucinations felt like? Want no longer! Plasma Pong is here!

Warning: A beefy PC is required for HIGH settings, as there's quite a bit of particles flying around the screen at any given time!

    BattleTanks II
    http://www.bundysoft.com/wiki/doku.php?id=projects:johnj#battletanks_ii

A 3D tank battle game where you can verse up to 3 other AI controlled tanks.

    Little Fighter 2
    http://lf2.net/

Remember Double Dragon? Those good 'ol scroller beat-'em-ups? Well, this is basically a multiplayer duke-it-out cartoon style version of those classics. Great fun when playing with friends (But not so fun when you all have to share one Laptop keyboard... :().

    Beats of Rage
    http://www.senileteam.com/borinfo.php

You were wondering if I'd forget my roots, weren't ya? Well, have no fear, I haven't!

This is a great fan-made game with characters and backgrounds taken from SNK's King of Fighters series, but it's been turned into those good 'ol scroller beat-'em-ups I just mentioned. And, yes, like all good classic beat-'em-ups, it's got two player support :).

Warning: This game captures the true essence of being a "classic"... That's in the graphics department as well (It's still great fun if you play it with a friend, though)

    josé chess
    http://jose-chess.sourceforge.net/

Honestly, what freeware list would be complete without at least some reference to a tried and true board game or card game (*cough* solitaire *cough*)?

josé chess combines the epic thrills of a chess game with the epic thrills of a all new 3D rendered chess pieces and chess board environment! You can't pass this one up!

    Monopolite
    http://monopolie.sourceforge.net/index.shtml

Apparently, it's a clone of Monopoly. You couldn't tell just from the name, could you? No way, you did?!

    BMW M3 Challenge
    http://www.m3-challenge.com/index.php?id=3&L=0

Since Tobi mentioned this game, I'll let him do the explaining:
    Battle for Wesnoth
    http://www.wesnoth.org/

An open-source turn-based strategy game ala Heroes of Might and Magic. The graphics are 2D and are on the minimalistic side, but graphics aside it's quite the solid freeware.

-Not sure about hot-seat multiplayer support.

    Halo Zero
    http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halozero/downloads.html?tag=tabs;downloads

A fan-made Halo platformer game akin to the good 'ol "ABUSE" (if you've never heard of it, that's okay. It's probably before your time). You aim and shoot with the mouse and move with the keyboard. This is NOT Mario :).

    -Single player supported.
-Multiplayer supported (to what extent is unknown).

    *------------------------------------------*

    GAME PORTALS Section

    Ijji
    http://www.ijji.com

Many full scale games (home of Drift City, Gunz and Soldier Front) that you can play for free as well as many Flash based mini-games that you can kill time with.

    GameTop
    http://www.gametop.com

Offers download to many freeware games and links to online flash games. Also where the original list were gathered from.

    *------------------------------------------*

If you have any games you'd like to add to the list, just post here (or PM me). I will do my best to consolidate new entries as soon as possible.

If you like the list I've compiled, Rep never hurt anyone ;).

    I totally agree -_-'...

I moderate 2 forums with pretty strict rules, so this is actually quite a shocker for me that people don't consolidate the original post with new info acquired throughout the thread... Ah well, C'est la vie.

Battle for Wesnoth is very good open-source, turn-based, fantasy themed strategy game. Highly recommendable if you can get past 2D GFX. And its a full-game (sort of).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Cellfactor requires a PhysX card in order to play it.

I won't add it to the list until I get confirmation since this is a notebook forum, and no notebook to date that I know of has a AGEIA PhysX PPU.
I have added Battle for Wesnoth to the list. Thank you for your input :).

+Rep for Triple_Dude for the hard work maintaining this post, and for Q8Phantom for the original idea! =)

Also, please add in the first post:

    - Urbanterror (Quake III mod, also available as a stand-alone free game): a quake III style game with real weapons and some realism, but very fast-paced and with several thousands of online players.
    - Get it at www.urbanterror.net
    - Supports LAN and online play
    - Single-player available vs. bots (PM me to know how to do it, it's not officially supported)

    - Trackmania Nations: a racing game with single-player training tracks, several hundred thousand online players (yep, you read it right) and a very easy-to-use track creator. This means that different servers have totally new tracks, so you never get bored!
    - Get it at www.trackmanianations
    - Single-player, LAN and online

Thank you for doing what I've been suggesting for a while. I was going to do it but I got flamed for suggesting it in the previous thread by saying how unorganized and unnatractive it would be for such a thread. I'm glad someone stood up and did it, I'll give you rep for that.

Add Silkroad online to free MMORPG's. Much of the background of the game is based on the historical Silk Road. You can play as either Chinese characters or european characters, both with 2 Very different skillsets and equipment. Very nice Graphics for a free MMORPG. I can nearly max them on a go7700 (with aa, but without detailed shadows).

Thanks a lot man, I've updated the list with that info!
Heh, I've been putting off adding that game 'cause I personally hated it, but since you guys are prodding me to add it, I'll add it :p.

Keep the games coming, guys :) (I know we're running out of possible free games, but if there's any mini-time killing games that you guys know, mention those too!).
Alright, thanks for the heads up. I'll do that :).
Thanks for the encouragement and rep :D!

EDIT: I've added yet another click-and-move adventure game, named "5 Days a Stranger". Check it out if you're into good 'ol classic horror/myster adventure fun!
