So..I get Windows 7 pro for free from my school (downloaded the ISO last night, yes WITH a key)..Awsome!
All I want to know, and I havent really found much concensus on google, is WILL IT HELP MY FPS?
Does anybody have experience gaming with Windows 7? or even conjecture?
EDIT: Oh ya, I forgot to mention that I will also be moving from 32-bit (vista) to an x64 Windows 7 (see sig for specs)

Windows 7 is pretty much a finely tuned Vista so compatibility of games shouldn't be a problem. As to whether or not it actually eprforms better, I've seen accounts that it does better and worse. However, in general, the differences were never really that significant from what I was able to read here on NBR.

maybe a little bit.
nothing drastically significant worth getting giddy over. -
If i was you i would only move to win 7 if you have 4gb ram, so you can use 64 bit version, otherwise everyone else should be using winxp, as vista was poor.

i have been gaming on Windows7 since the pre-beta program here are all the games that have worked flawless:
COD4
COD5
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
ALL STEAM GAMES
Bioshock
Guild wars
Mirrors Edge (needed to install special sound drivers)
Grand theft auto 4
Psychonauts
The godfather 2
Fallout 3
Age of Conan
Burnout Paradise
Age of Empires 2
Oblivion
gta VC
Assasins Creed
Farcry 1+2
The only game that has been giving me problems is:
Kotor (constantly crashes)
oh and im currently using Windows7 x64 Ultimate -
Here's a good read for you:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/windows-7-vs-vista-vga-game-performance/
However, that covers desktop GPU/CPU performance. YMMV. -
Moving to W7 won't be much of a difference in FPS. However, moving to 64-bit will give you an increase in some games (Crysis shows about a 10% increase for me). If it's free, it's worth it.

Damn it I envy you!, free windows 7...
I would like to have the same chance...
in theory 64bits is better for some games that require more than 4gb of ram, but I dont think you will find those requirements on any game.
Free Windows 7 Pro from my University..Advice please?
