"AssaultCube, formerly ActionCube, is a free first-person-shooter based on the game Cube. Set in a realistic looking environment, as far as that´s possible with this engine, while gameplay stays fast and arcade. This game is all about team oriented multiplayer fun. More.."

yes, assaultcube is based on the cube 2, another fun fps :) i've somewhat been following cube's progress, and their recent release (saubraten: assassin's ed.) is very good looking.

Someone should really compile a list of fun, small footprint, and low system requirement games for us laptop users. Yes my 8600m GT will run most things well, but it is always fun to get free game downloads with good gameplay even if the graphics are kinda sucky.

15 to 20 years ago (ok, showing my age now) some of the best games were independent developers. Single programmers on a limited budget (or no budget). I even tried my hand at it and made a few bucks submiting game code to mags and some of the larger developers.

I'd like to see more of this rather than the $50 games that go to multi billion $$$ companies.

I'll try it sometime. Is there enough servers and players?
It's sometimes fun to play these types of small games for a change. Soldat is also a pretty good shooter, it's 2D though: http://www.soldat.pl/

nah, they only explode with nades, or with headshots from a sniper(or with everything if you are on a mod).
There are multiple levels, some even look like CS levels

Graphics are actually pretty darn good for a free game.

I wouldn't say for a free game (Fear Combat/Americas Army...), but for such a small game, which runs on pretty much every computer.
