I never played Freelancer much in the past, but would like to give it shot since it seems to have longevity and still a significant fan base.

Would you recommend playing it as original with 1.1 patch or with TNG 2.7.6 patch?

    Thanks.

There are lots of patches for it. Some online servers have their own. It is such a great game...I wish there was a game that matches its funness. :p Single player wise I'd play with original.

Actually, I wish there was a patch which allowed the player to advance beyond the level limit for the final storyline missions.

It would be so nice to walk into those final fights with the hidden weapons and higher-end ships you spend so long exploring for...

Anyone know if there is such a patch?

And yes, freelancer is one of my all-time favorites.

Is it best to play online or single player?

    Hi.

just tried to install the demo in vista, and it started to install and then nothing, no erros but no directorys or anything in program files and no desktop icon.

I have tried installing it a few time?

Completing the single player story line will give you the skills you need to compete online. It will give you a knowledge of the weapons and locations of ports and stuff too. Plus the storyline is excellent.

Sorry I have no idea. I have only played it on XP.

This thread brings back some very nice memories. Freelancer is an awesome game and I wish there were a sequel!

Play a bit of single player first and then go online with a few friends. The game is even more fun with more people. Just fly around and explore the different systems. They each have their unique look and feel

I don't know about the demo but the full game runs perfectly on vista. You even get a nice shiny box-art in the games explorer.

Awesome idea! Well, I'll have to wait until after my midterms are over, but then I'm free to explore the vast reaches of space and to fight pirates, and the nomads, and...omicron systems...Crap, can't focus on studying now :(
