    Hello,

I dont think i fried my gpu, im just a bit paranoid.

I did an overclock on my x1600, core, 400-440, mem 380-430, and it got pretty artifacty and then atitool froze and imy pc restarted.

Since then, ive got it pretty stable and have been getting 3100s in 3dmark, no artifacts appearent anywhere in 3dmark, or in like 5 min artifact tests in atitool. However i have decided to stop overclocking.

Now if i get 3100s in 3dmark theres no way i did any damage to my gpu during my little experimentation? if a gpu is dead is it pretty much obvious and not subtle? SHould i stop worrying that i screwed up my new computer and enjoy it?

Only thing is, today while playing bf2 i got wierd texture errors, where a texture would go missing, or be black, and the menu would lack any textures, but the game ran fine. But i switched from cats 6.8 to 6.7 omegas and the problem disappeared.

So am I ok? IF my gpu was blown, would i know for sure>? Is it possible i did damage?

    Thanks

a paranoid new very happy toshiba owner

if you had 3100s in 3dmark and games are fine, don't worry about it, IF SOMETHING IS WRONG YOU WILL DEFINITELY SEE IT!

theres no possiblity of some sort of 'pipe' or something fried that caused the bf2 weirdness in the menu?

or fried memory cells, or something

Everything looks fine...im just horribly paranoid i just destroyed my wonderful new investment.

I just played bf2 for an hour with the new omegas, and it ran perfect, a little bit of wierd textures in game to menu transition but it filtered itself out instantly. that cant be anything right>?

If you blew up or fried your GPU then you'd be receiving rendering errors across the screen. You'd know if you seriously damaged it.

overclocking and notebooks really dont mix very well, if everything appears to be working normally now, just leave it and dont worry about it, the lock up in ati-tool could've thrown your drivers out of whack, wich was repaired when you installed different ones, thats just a guess though, good luck with it and lets hope the problem doesnt resurface

Believe me you'd know if something was wrong. If games are running fine in games, especially those like BF2, it's most likely ok. If its in anyway damaged you would usually get colored artifacts on screen or strange colors and lines on desktops.

What sort of temps are you reaching. Unless you really flog it hell for leather it'd be hard to damage it when casually and carefully overclocking

If your computer works, then it means that your computer works. And if it didn't work, you'd soon see that your computer didn't work.

That's really all there is to it.

As posted, you would know if the GPU went. It didn't.

You probably set the clocks too high. I've done that a few times with my X700 before finding the 'ideal' settings.
