Hey'all. I'm looking for some gaming recommendations to play multiplayer online and/or between two laptops, over the upcoming holiday season. I'm running a decent Clevo model but one of the others guy will be running an XPS with an ATi 3670.

Could anyone suggest a few games that would run smoothly on his laptop? It doesn't have to be too recent, nor does he have to play it on the highest settings. We just don't want it to drop below 30 fps too often. It's quite problematic because last Christmas we were playing SC2 and even that was quite slow on his laptop, though WoW runs just fine. That's the only criteria. Let's see whatcha got...

Does he have a Studio XPS 1640 with the ATi 3670 512 MB?

    I'd say Left 4 Dead 2, Halo/Halo 2 online, Portal 2, CoD MW, etc.

SC2 should be fine. It can run decently on much slower gfx. Might have to play with the settings and keep drivers updated.

Is it two player coop games or multiplayer w/ more? You might have some interesting choices with 2 player coop

    @fred2028: Yep, I believe that's the one.

@masterchef341: Last year, we played several other players online and a co-op against AI. He was constantly mentioning about how slow it was, even on the lowest settings. I never got a chance to look at his computer personally so I don't know if he was running other programs too.

Heroes of Might & Magic series is an excellent choice.

The latest (#6) may be too graphically intensive for your friend, however the previous installments are still super fun.

If MMOs aren't off the table and you guys liked KotOR, then SWTOR is out Dec 20. Just make sure to play the same faction and be on the same planet so you can work together on more missions.

Cheers people, while some of the suggestions maybe risky others seem great. Prydeless, I know he's a SW fan and those system requirements look easy going...

No worries, we're not the kind of lads to be stuck indoors playing games on New Years Eve but there will be downtime during the week beforehand. Just planning a few ideas in advance. And yeah, the drinks and so on are already taken care of. ;)

Actually, when it comes to multi-player in SC2, the CPU might be the reason why the game runs slow. High player count matchups can be pretty intense with up to 800 units or even more on the map on unit cap. This is no trivia, of course, but a lot of people with decent systems seem to have had poor gameplay experience when playing 4v4 matchups, for example.

    My suggestions:
Portal 2 Co-op - pretty fun and challenging, especially if alcohol is in play :D
    Shattered Horizon?
    TF2 ?

Play Skyrim in turns (while the other person commentates) on a big-screen.

Minecraft is always a great time-sinker if you and your friends are into exploration/construction projects.

COD4:MW1 would play quite well. Either Halo would as well (though use a wired network if you try LAN). TF2 also plays well on 3670-vintage machines (my 8600M GT is likely slightly below the 3670 in performance). Are you specifically looking at FPS? There's a good variety of games in other genres that would work, too.

If you're shipping milk through the interwebs, better to go with something at least 4-star rated, such as this Tuscan Whole Milk. Anything lower-rated might spoil in transit.

I'm not trying to be funny, but this game is really fun, even in local too.

A bunch of my friends and I tried this game with our gaming computers that could play the most extreme games only to play something as simple as Draw My Thing. It's really fun and hopefully, it's not demanding on you and your friends' computers.
