From a HD5430 to HD5470 ?

Same architecture, the only diffrence is the chipset's clock and the memory's clock.
Do you think i can turn my HD5430 to a HD5470 just by overclocking it ?
It would go from 550mhz to 750mhz...

My guess is the 5430 is just a downclocked 5470, am i right ?

 

Pretty much, just like the 5650 and 5730 are the same chip. However, the higher chips, like the 5470s and 5730s are usually tested first to make sure they can handle the higher speeds. Most likely, you'll be able to overclock a 5430 to as fast if not faster than a 5470, but it's not guaranteed.

However, I don't know if you'll actually see much if any improvement in doing so. They're both barely faster than the integrated GPU on the i3/i5s, so I really don't know what the point is of even putting those chips into a laptop. Unless you're playing old games, or non-demanding newer games on the lowest settings, you're looking at going from 15fps to 20fps with that overclock, still not really playable.

 

Well I saw on youtube that the 5470 can run GTAIV smoothly !

I have a HP G62 with an I3 and a 5430, but I can't even play Trackmania forever smoothly. Other G62s have intel P6000 with hd5470 in the same laptop design.

Yeah, and in the comments he says that a 5470 is faster than a 4870, which is just ridiculous. I highly doubt that it's really a 5470 he's playing with, and if you read the comments, there's others with a 5470 that say they can't even get the game to run in the first place.

No, it's not risky really to overclock, as long as you don't start upping voltages. The worst that can happen is the card becomes unstable and resets itself.

 

well, considering an i7 quad and a 5870M have difficulty running GTAIV smoothly, I'm a bit doubtful a 5430 has a chance.

 

I'm pretty sure a 5470 can run GTA IV. Just play it with everything on low.

Not to say that it couldn't handle any game, but GTA IV is known for it's horrible coding (it was poorly ported from Xbox360), that eats PC hardware that should theoretically be able to play even better looking games.

 

My friend ran GTA4 and completed it with an i5 and a 5470 and he ran it in medium but had to lower the res to 1336x768. It ran quite well although he had a better cpu and GTA4 is extremely CPU intensive so i dont know how well your i3 would do. I havenet yet tried GTA4 with my system which has an i3 all i know is that i could only get the game smooth enough to play on my desktop was to turn down the settings to medium and lower traffic density just to be able to play it at my native res.

 

If you ever overclock your 5430, i'd be on the watch for an increase in temperature just in case, other than that instability is the only thing you have to worry about. It may decrease the overall lifespan of your GPU as well.

 

What program use to overclock this graphic card ??

 

Im in deep shock to see such good stats but with a 64 bit chip? what a waste 5470 with GDDR5 and Directx 11 but only a 64 bit card?

3Dmark 06 gives it 3500ish with my SLI setup GTA IV runs smoothly on medium and high on Crysis so I cannot see even the 5470 being a worthy upgrade.

As this is a MXM II card personally I would recommend you looking into something like a HD 4670m depending on what notebook you are using and if it is compatible.

 

I'd say that you wouldn't notice much of a difference switching to the HD5470.
Just wait for something better to come out.

 

The HD5470 should get over 4100 in 3dmarks06 since my HD4570 gets that score, but still it wouldnt be a worthy upgrade and i doubt you can overclock a HD5430 to reach to HD5470 clocks without any stability problems

 

No program works with this video card I can not overclock this card ;/
