this game is fast approaching its release date. i've been playing the beta for a month now or so and i am trying to convince myself that the developers will release something that will give a more realistic warfare experience.
For those of you who have not yet played this or heard of it - it's basically a combination of battlefield 2 and battlefield 2142. the only MAJOR difference is obviously the graphics and the 'frontlines' in which you must destroy your enemy by moving your entire frontline forward thus requiring more teamwork on each side.
Here is what i have noticed so far:
POSITIVES:
the environment is totally destructible (i found myself sitting in a safe spot sniping up top an oil rig and after 5 minutes, looked down, and everything that used to be there was now totally destroyed, wow)
the drones - they are incredible, some think its a cheap shot but theres nothing like hovering above the battlefield and finding someone hiding and just exploding your drone in their face. there are multiple types of drones from mini helicopters to rolling 'mars-rover' style drones that can fire while you are safely tucked away somewhere
the sound - it is amazing. probably my favorite part of the game. there are no "ambience" sounds of guns or explosions. every gunshot, every explosion, every tank firing is happening in the game, there are no fillers
vehicles - the tanks, choppers, airplanes, they all work wonderfully and there are plentiful amounts of them to silence your enemy
drones/air support/ground support = i prefer the drones at the moment but if you can get enough poitns to lay down a cluster bomb it does serious damage.
frontline strategy - the fact that you need to work as a team to move the frontline forward (gets rid of the people running behind the enemy and starting from their end) adds more teamwork and tactics.
graphics - yes they do look nice. (refer below to why it is bad also)
NEGATIVES:
hit detection is somewhat awkward - i found myself emptying clip after clip from about 10 feet from an enemy and no bullets hit him (i believe the devs are working on this mesh detection now)
graphics - this might be good or bad considering it is using the Unreal engine, i just had more expectations of this engine. there is a lot of bugs (it is beta) but while maintaining 60 fps, i still notice lockups and glitches where everything goes down the tube. i wish they would optimize the graphics more
classes - another good and bad subject. i love classes, in fact i believe every war game needs classes, however the setup is somewhat clumsy. you pick your usual assault/spec ops/anti tank class and then you have a second modification where you can control drones OR do airstrikes. the bad part is that the menu feels very clumsy. not a big deal, but i would love a more detailed spec sheet for each class
there are more things i could say about negatives to this game for there are plenty but i will withhold my judgement until the game develops more and the release date comes closer
OVERALL - i feel this game has great potential but with a release date soon coming (in about a month), i feel they need to get moving on optimizing the graphics to remove stutters/lockups/and other annoyances.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BF2,BF2142,COD4, OR ANY OTHER WAR GAME FOR THAT MATTER, PLEASE TRY THIS BETA OUT!

if you have been playing this game or at least tried it, i'd love to get some more opinions on this. it may not be the battlefield killer, but it sure as hell is a unique experience.![]()

I may try the Beta. I can always remove it if it's terrible...

I tried the 360 demo.. it wasn't bad. Felt like battlefield to me with a little ghost recon mixed in.

I think that i'll download and try it out.

Graphics are amazing. Actually... really, really good graphics. Love the lighting, shadows, and glare it puts. (Playing 1024x768, mid/high settings) Now the bad part... the gameplay. Everything felt really... sluggish? Fraps reported my framerate at 35-40 average, but it still felt sluggish. The framerate was fine, I could tell. It was quick and responsive, but the whole "sprinting", aiming, and overall gameplay felt sticky and sloppy. It would all of the sudden glitch, drop frames, and slowdown. Wasn't too too impressed, but I'm sure they will be fixing all that in the final release.
Looked very promising, though!
