I just bought Far Cry 2 on Steam.

I ran the benchmark utility and it passed and did just fine everything passed. Actually recommended some pretty high settings I was surprised about.

But when I click to launch the game it hangs up on the first fry cry 2 screen (the one where it first loads up) and I have to force close (waited over 5 minutes).

I have tried restarting and everything is up to date.

I have an intel care 2 duo with integrated 3000 series graphics using Windows 7 64bit.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know what that benchmark utility told you, but your graphics are not even close enough to play FarCry 2. I really doubt it could even do 10+ fps at 640x480. And I'm not saying it to be mean. I remember it was barely playable on my laptop's ATI HD4330 in single player with minimum settings, and that is leaps and bounds ahead of your Intel GMA.

But besides that, I as well as others had that problem with FarCry 2. I completely forgot what the fix was since the last time I played was like 2 years ago, but it was simple. It just took a lot of detective work on google.

did you check the Steam forums for FC2? Lots of times many people have the same errors.

But I agree with the poster above that you'd best try to play it at the smallest resolution available with lowest settings far Cry 2 was a pretty demanding game

If you're playing on a desktop, you at least have the option to add in a cheap GPU. If you don't care about settings, almost anything should handle it on low.

    It should run anyway.

But it still wont launch. Steam sent me this but it did not work:
-If you are running in Windows Vista or Windows 7, please completely exit Steam, and right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam and select "Run as Administrator."

-If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps (ignore these if you are using Windows 7 or Vista):
    1) Exit Steam.
    2) Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK".
    3) Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
    4) Right click and select "Permissions"
    5) Check the "Allow" boxes for "Admin" and "System" for both "Full control" and "Read".

The remaining steps apply to *all* versions of Windows.

Then verify the GCF for this game:

If the issue persists, you may need to manually run secondary installers required by this game.

    Exit Steam entirely.

Browse to your Far Cry 2 installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\far cry 2\)

You will need to run the following installers:

    ...\steamapps\common\far cry 2\installers\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe

    ...\steamapps\common\far cry 2\installers\VCRedist\vcredist_x86.exe

    ...\steamapps\common\far cry 2\installers\DotNetRedist\dotnetfx.exe

    ...\steamapps\common\far cry 2\installers\DotNetRedist\NetFx64.exe

Then, restart your computer and test the issue again.

Should you still have difficulty, please contact the support team for this title:

Search on google for the fix for this. I promise you it exists, you just need to look for it. This happened to me as well when I used to play FarCry 2. I had to reinstall the game to fix it the first time, but the second time I found the fix.

But either way, I don't see why you are wasting your time, because it will simply not be playable on your GPU. FarCry 2 is too demanding a title for your integrated graphics. Unless you plan on throwing in a cheap graphics card, your whole problem is entirely academic.

If you have a C2D, you more than likely have the Intel X3100 video card. It's not going to be playable.
